Next Friday (June 29th) I am leaving for a 4 night camping trip to Balsam Lake in beautiful Northern Ontario. This will not be my first camping trip, I am a very experienced camper, however it WILL be my first time camping with Fibromyalgia....

I have found that if you go up in altitude it hurts your jaw and bothers your fibro more. I just make sure I have plenty of meds as well as decongestants and allergy meds. Also if you have a twin size memoryfoam matress topper take it with you. Sleeping on those air matresses will not make for a happy you in the morning. You can get one cheap at a Walmart if you have one. Also make sure to take plenty of blankets if you are going high up as it might get cold. When you get cold your fibro will fight back. I would also suggest those Thermacare heating pads. that last about 12 hrs. And if you can get some lidoderm patches from your dr. I have found those numb up sore muscles really good. I hiked to much when I went and over did it and I would have loved to have those. But now that I do I will use them when we go. We go up to the 8000 ft level where it is about 70 during the day and 38 at night so take campfire wood as the nice warm campfire does help alot. I wish we could go camping this year but money is so tight we cant swing it. Because where we like to go we fish also and we have not bought our fishing licence. And they started charging for our fav camping place late last year. Have fun and good luck you want to ask me more email me angiharrover@gmail.com

    Thanks Angi :)

We're not going to be up higher in altitude...I'm not that much of a crazy camper! LOL! ;) Balsam Lake is a provincial park, but not as rugged as some of those where you would have to portage and hike to get to your site. I haven't camped at any of the state parks in the US so maybe the set up works differently there. There are driving trails through the woods to get to your site and you can park right at your camp. I'm borrowing my dad's van so we have lots of room for supplies! hehe

I think I may take my Cuddle Ewe with me to put ontop of the air mattress. I think my parents have a sponge mattress topper as well that they never use anymore....I should see if they still have it.

Thanks for all your suggestions! :)

i agree with everything Angi said, She covered it. enjoy the beauty of all you see and limit yourself. Don't let life pass you by.Sounds like you got a good crew with you that know you, so go and seek peace with nature. You'll do fine, just be sure you stay warm. Have a great trip and we hope to hear all about it when you get back. pace yourself and take breaks when you need them. Naps are so nice out in the country. Blessings, Helen

Bring your favoirte pillow! Have a hreat time- when we lived up there, we had 2 cottages in Honey Harbor with no running water or electricity when my parents bought them! My mom was such a pioneer and doesn't know it- she used to drive up with two little kids (me being one) and the dog and drive the boat from the dock to the cottage, unload and stay up there. I guess my boating brings back good memories of it- fishing, swimming, and best of all, boating- I'm off to sail today, hope I'm not too sore- have fun- does Monty have an aerobed too? P.s. We filled in Idol time with last comic standing!- Deb

    Hey Deb,

Honey Harbour is gorgeous! Your mom sounds like she was a real strong woman going off to the cottage with all you kids, the dog, and boating you all to the place too! That's awesome! :) I'm definitely bringing my fav. pillow(s) and little Monty has a bed of his own too. hehe. We have a huge tent so we all have tons of space.

Have a great day sailing! :)

Hi- we had a great day out there yesterday! It was windy but not choppy and we just sailed for hours and came back to the mooring and I took a nap while he tinkered. A friend called to go out to dinner and then a doctor I work with called and invited us to their "cottage" for drinks. We ended up getting chinese food and going over there- they are right on the water- what a view. turns out they are right across from out friend's house where we sail to for firworks on the fourth of July! They also had their son's 2 rabbits at their house when he got divorced so we had fun talking about house rabbits. I knew Monty would have his own little aerobed and sleeping bag, he's so cute! I'm really sore today but it was worth it- Deb
