Fibromyalgia & Nausea

By Bekah Saturday, August 13, 2011

I've been living with Fibromyalgia since 2006 and nausea has been a problem from time to time. This past week it's been in full force and getting rather annoying!! Any tips for easing the nausea and getting back on track again?

Hi Bekah – Two of the best remedies I've found for nausea are peppermint or ginger.  I keep a small bottle of the essential oil peppermint and breathe it in when I feel nauseous.  You can also drink peppermint tea, chew peppermint gum or even suck on a peppermint candy.  Ginger ale or ginger tea are also good. Actually, flat ginger ale is better than with carbonation.  Apparently the carbonation can make the nausea worse.

Another thing that helps some is to consciously take a few slow, deep breaths.  I'm bad about holding my breath and taking very shallow breaths without realizing it.  When I start feeling nauseous, I try to take several deep breaths...in through my nose and out through my mouth.  It seems to help.  I do it as often as I think about it until the nausea is gone.

There's also an accupressure point that is supposed to help relieve nausea.  I haven't tried it myself because frankly I never seem to think about it at the time.  Here is a video that demonstrates how to find the point:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcZs6BYFyTo&NR=1   If that helps you, there are accupressure wristbands you can buy that apply continuous pressure to that point.

If the nausea doesn't go away soon, be sure to check with your doctor to make sure it's not something other than the fibromyalgia.  I hope one or more of these tips helps you.  – Karen

Thanks Karen! I found great relief with peppermint. Actually, I knew about this tip but I haven't had nausea issues in so long I forgot all about it. Thanks so much for all your tips....been forever since I have come by the site. I still read all your posts though! Hugs, Bekah

I get that several times a month. I think its because of the mixture of drugs i take for fibro. What helps me is, an anti nuasea med from walgreens. Its a syrupy liquid. Very cheap but it helps. Its actually what its called!! Anti nuasea medicine! Try it because it works! Good Luck!
