I had the permanent Spinal Stimulator implanted 2 weeks ago. The pain going from my back down my leg has decreased tremendously. During the test trial I had a few problems with certain settings causing severe itching. We got it set so the itching stopped. Pain relief was remarkable, I could walk without a cane, do chores and my main goal was in sight - riding a bicycle with my granddaughter.
Now the pain relief still works, but---the nerve pain down the tops of both thighs is so servere that I often cannot stand, or walk at all. I have had to crawl to make it to the bathroom. I met with the Medtronic rep who said this was very unusual and turned down the pulse on the stimulator and it helped a bit, but not much. I am in more pain than prior to the stimulator. The nerve pain was bad, but I could still walk. The muscle pain is so severe and sudden that I often cry out. Even turning off the stimulator for a day hasn't stopped the muscle spasms.
Has anyone else had muscle spasm problems after the stimulator implant? I would appreciate any info or help. I have a hard time believing that the muscle spasms are VERY rare and that the itching problems I had during the trial period were unheard of and that I was the only person who had itching at certain settings.
I just want to find some way of controlling this and if anyone else has gone through this, maybe find a solution. I am not ready to give up on the stimulator and really do believe that it is a problem with one of the settings.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I had my neurostimulator implanted almost 3 years ago. I've recently developed muscle spasms in my face, arms, legs, and abdomen. In addition to this, I now have severe headaches, neck, and jaw pain daily. In addition, I experience numbness and pain in my upper and lower back, hands, and lesgs. My face and body gradually goes numb as well. These symptoms seem to persist even when the machine is off. I 1st notice the "tingling or tapping" in my head as if the machine was on, then my head, neck, and jaw get tighter. After this, all the other symptoms slowly arise. I've had no luck resolving any of these issues with my Dr. or the company reps. Even calling the company direct proved fruitless. Everyone keeps saying they've never heard of such problems. Well, if nothing else, I'm glad to discover after reading several posts on this and other forums that I'm not crazy and this is happening to others. I'm now forced to increase my pain medication and fight to get a solution.
