I am so sorry to hear that your doctors are so "behind the times", so to speak.  There are SO many meds out there to treat pain that are not narcotics.  You both need to find new doctors.  Call around and find a Rhumatologist that treats Fibromyalgia or go to a pain specialist.  There are treatments out, there I promise.  If you can't talk to your doctor them get rid of him!  You pay his bill.  Would you accept that kind of service at a resteraunt?  Of course not!  Well, who do you think pays your insurance premimum?  Even if you're on medicare, you pay.  You have a right to proper service.  You just have to do your part in the researce to get to the right doctor.

Some of the newer antidepressants are used to treat pain and work very well.  Other things like Lyrica work well for some but not for others.  I took Lyrica for a while and it worked great but,  I too gained weight (40 lbs.) and had blurred vision.  Had to get off of it.  There is another one like it called Neurontin that may work instead.  If you are having those side effects from Lyrica get off of it now but slowly, it does have a withdrawl period.

I will keep you both in my prayers.

I do not have fibromyalgia, but I suffer from unexplained chronic pain.  I am taking lyrica right now, and at a pretty high dose, and I have gained a lot of weight too.  Adding that to my pain issues was not what I needed!!

I take other meds that help some, but nothing takes the pain away....I have not had a pain-free day in 7 years.  Sometimes I don't know if I can go on, but then I find the strength hidden inside somewhere.

I hear there's a new med on the market (savella?) for fibromyalgia.....I have not tried it, but maybe someone else here has.  Also, sometimes older anti-depressants can work on pain issues.

I am here for you, as a fellow soldier in the battle against pain....I hope that helps.

My name is pain

I have had Fibromyalgia for a long time. It started in 1979, after a injury to my back and neck. over the years it has gotten as bad as i think it can get. There are days that i am in bed and cant get up for seveal days at a time, due to pain. The pain has gotten sever since 2002. May family are suportive but at times they just do not understand.

To make matters worse i am out of work most of the time. I worke seasonaly for  a company that is up and runing just five months out of the year. The work is fast pace and very demanding, it is a verey high stresed job that at times i am on my feet 16-18-hr. days at start up . mide  season i work 8-12 hr. days. i live on site, so it is like being on call 24-7, 7 days a week, for five months.  I realy like my job, even with all the draw backs.

I have to travel 5000 miles away from home to work. When i come home there is no jobs to be found. We cant aford Health insurance and i only go to a phasicion when i just have to. I have taken Lyrica it has helped me so much, i am out of the bed to day. I cant aford to by the Lyrica, it is so exspencev. I have very little of it left. I need help, Where do i start, with no mony?
