co worker issues, what to say this time around?

By Nephilim Friday, October 15, 2010

Since ive started working in my healthcare job, I been up and down with a co worker. One second we are okay the next she is complaining about me somehow. The first week i started here, she blamed me for a printer breaking down, and then complained about my sanitizer. i personally, LOVE using hand sanitizer, i like to stay healthy, clean, and its refreshing. So finally, again working in a healthcare facitily/business office,  my supervisors said i cannot use hand sanitizer  that is scented...So i got one that was unscented, and then my co worker complained again! Then i was not allowed to use sanitizer at all! It was hard to get use to not having my sanitizer because i was sooo used to it! So whenever my co worker left the room i woud use my sanitzer. I been doing this for 3 years now. It bothers me i cannot keep my area and hands clean as much as id like  because she is "allergic"... Ive understood for 3 yrs, and now i have had it! I was cleaning my desk with Lysol wipes because for the past 3yrs ive gotten sick and missed ALOT of work. I am pushing myself to keep healthy and clean, and now she is complaining again! I have used these wipes before around her, and today she happens to SEE ME cleaning, and decided to complain. I will probably have to have ANOTHER meeting on Monday about how i keep clean.. I wiped down my keyboard, mouse, desk, chair EVERYTHING! I cannot do this anymore with her bickering, and me not being able to stay healthy. EVERY office has a bottle of sanitzer at a desk or front of the room because our main boss of the buisness office ENCOUARGES It! ofcourse except our room, we had a bottle of hand sanitzer and now we do not because she complained..  Any suggestions as to what i should do about this? I feel like she is just complaining just to complain! I have used sanitzer and these wipes around her, and the only time she complains is when she SEE's me use the things. She even told me she was allergic to eating chocolate (i bought chocolate for coworkers) and a weeks later i see chocolate wrappers in her garbage!! Milk chocolate hershey which was what she was offered frm me!   I feel like im going to become angry and bitchy toward her and my supervisors, i no longer know how to put up with this.  I get reallly bad headaches because of the stress. Suggestions?

The only conclusion that I can come to is that your coworker is jealous and therefore threatened by you. What you are doing by keeping your desk and hands clean would normally be considered admirable. Everyone I know would consider it admirable. Maybe she is allergic to scented soaps, but it doesn't really sound like it, does it? I guess if you are going to continue to work there, you will have to be discreet, so to speak. Maybe you could move your desk so that she isn't so close to you?  You could even offer to move for the "good" of your coworker. So sorry you are having this issue. Unnecessary stress is destructive, and such a waste of everyone's time.  Best Wishes, V

Thank you, yes i am going to request to move to a different cubicle. She is just full of unecessary drama. I am not the only one that says this, my whole office says this, yet they continue to keep her around. Some coworkers and her dont even speak! I will be discreet when she is around for now. Thanks again!
