Seeing Pain Mgmt Dr. or Pump Replacement so Son can get back to Working & Living
2 mg. Morphine at 10% concentration and 20 mg valium for sleep
Son had failed l4-l5 fusion w/ hardware - doesn't respond to oral medications for pain - took 2 yrs to get pump. He did great & went back to work for 3+ yrs then started having major nausea...Dr. added Lyrosol to his Morphine in pump & nausea kept getting worse. Had every test run & everything pointed to pump; dr. replaced morphine & lysorol with dilaudid and nausea got worse, couldn't eat, bladder shut down, lost control of bowels, started having blackouts - was hospitalized for 4 days without pain medications other than oxycodine. They put saline in the pump Med. 8627 L18 & then online we discover the recall. His nausea was the same as his withdrawal from the dilaudid when he was in the hospital...as they had to confirm the drug reaction so the insurance company would pay the hospital bill. After 2 wks of saline solution they put Morphine .5 mg at 10% concentration back in the pump...he was taking 120 mg of morphine orally. Side effects were no appetite, no sleep, major pain which doesn't respond to Morphine now...went up to 3.8 mg daily...same pain as if on 2 mg daily; however it did knock out the sciatica. But now we discover not only did the dr. not tell us about the Pump recall, a recent MRI shows a lipoma of the filium attached to his spinal cord. Further, since drug change, dentist diagnosed him with Trigeminal / Neuralgia...major bouts of pain burst from jaw to top of head lasting from 15 to 30 minutes. Diagnosed as the WORST pain known to man & we just don't know how all these symptoms are related and how to get them treated. Current dr. upset we requested tests due to pump recall of cathedra; has yet to do dye test for rotor stall - only wants to take out pump. Cannot get 2nd opinion - Called everyone in my state; I will go anywhere, anytime & have recent MRI's w/ & without resolution and x-rays - all MRI's & X-Rays go back to 1999. Please if anyone can help we would be greatly appreciative..we don't want to sue anyone; we just want the pain relief for my son he deserves and had for the first 3-4 yrs of the pump...he'll even take the nausea which has not returned. Thank you all for your stories, we read them looking for answers and answer those we can relate to...but have to be careful due to Dr. & Insurance Companies...they do not want to take responsibility & do the right thing in my opinion. Sincerely, Mother watching son die inside due to extreme lower back pain.
