Imagine your most painful day. You remember that day when someone or something ripped your guts out, threw them on the floor, stomped on them, and shoved them back inside your agonizing body. What did you do? How did you survive that day? You might have curled up in a ball on your bed with the room c...

I have had a reaction to the controlled drug I have been on so I asked my doctors to find something else. Everything I try my body now is having trouble with so after a month of "hell" and three different meds I am on Tramadon 50 mg tabs and Fentenal patch 12 mgs that so far is okay, as far as reactions go. My pain is as bad as I have ever had it, my sleeping is about two hours at a time, and I am so depressed I don't know where to turn or what to do. My neck surgery that I had a year ago is hurting me so bad that I can not move without agony. I am not one to lay in my bed all day and do nothing so I sit with my heating pad for a while then try to do alittle till I can not do any more then cry and sit with the heating pad.

I am not sure why I am sharing all this but I need to right now or I will scream. I do not want this pain any more I want one day with out pain. What can I do?

    Thanks,

    Deb

the fentanyl patch caused me to have the worst depression i have ever had. it may take some time to find the right medication. as long as your doctor is willing to work with you in finding it.

i improved when i stopped using it, but the chronic pain and loss of function was and is also depressing. one of my solutions was getting involved with this web site and talking with other people. i realized i was no longer alone and the act of sharing my story helped distract me and lessened my pain. i also discovered that i had been holding on to a lot of painful and unhappy experiences and that this caused me to have increased pain.

my anger was buried and i refused to talk about it and then one day an incident occurred and i found myself telling this other person that their behavior toward me was unacceptable and i was going to file formal complaint. after the conversation i realized that the severe pain in my neck and shoulders had decreased, my muscles were no longer in knots. it was like someone had pulled a plug and the pain drained out.

sharing with others has helped become more assertive and proactive about avoiding situations that increase my pain. those actions include finding a new pain doctor and pharmacy. i also stopped being a martyr and told my doctor that my medication wasn't working.

it is okay to talk about and share what you are going through. i learned that it is okay to ask for and receive help. keep writing and sharing, you are not alone and we understand the challenges you are facing. i hope this helps.
