Medtronic pain pump w/ fentanyl

By Mrs. Doug Miller Thursday, August 07, 2008

Hi, I'm 62 years old and 08/01/08 had the Synchromed II pump installed at Norman, Oklahoma, by Dr. J. Leonard. I'm still recovering from the surgery. I've had five major back surgeries and chronic pain for seventeen years. Been on the alphabet of class II's drugs. When I took the mophine test back in April of this year, I coded on it. That's the reason we went to Fentanyl for pain management. My gut is already reacting to the no drugs. It's wonderful not to be constipated. Today my Dr. and a Medtronic's teck, increased my pump by ten %. Will undergo many until I reach my goal, to be pain free. With Kindest Regards.

Hello Mrs Miller

It's a plesure to meet you and Welcome to the Chronic Pain Connection!

17 yrs in pain is a very long time.  You must be an expert by now.  I hope your pain pump is working well for you and you continue on to achieve the correct dosage.  There are quite a few members around here who have the pumps installed and if your interested, there's an ongoing conversation over in the forum area that your welcome to join in on.

I've been on this pain journey for 6 yrs now.  I had pain problems for many years, but it did not become chronic until about 6 yrs ago and unfortunately I've been fighting it every days since.

I've tried to get my doc to consider the pump for me, as all specialist say that I'll be this way and get worse for the rest of my life.  But my doc wants to treat me orally as long as we can and then wait till later to have the pump installed.  I do like to learn about others experiences though and hear how they are working.

I hope to see you around and get to know you better.  Welcome and when your comfortable, please join in anywhere you'd like

I am 57 and have had the pump for a few months now. It seems to be taking a long time to get the pump adjusted to the setting that will relieve surrounding pain as I was told it would. The doctor is using morphine, so when I read that you coded on morphine, I wondered what that meant. Thanks in advance for any help.
