I have chronic migraines, which rather became chronic because of the Firbromyalgia and co-triggers (such as severe photophobia). Apparently this also makes my migraines more difficult to treat, as a result I have had some extreme problems finding a preventative for the migraines. I am now trying a combo of Lyrica and Cymbalta... both of which help with nerve pain and FMS pain but not so much with the migraines.
So my doctor is putting me on a 21 day drug program composed of a calcium channel blocker and a tranquilizer to break me free of my migraine cycle. Because the FMS is really triggering the migraines, such that I can't even tell if new medications are doing anything at all... the migraines are almost daily. Hopefully this will work... I am on day ten and so far not so much.
This is a huge deal because the chronic migraines cause me to miss a great deal of work, and make me work while having them as well (which really just makes a migraine dang hard to treat anyway)... whereas FMS does not cause me to miss work (just makes it a sucky sometimes, expecially a flare of IBS-D). My boss is getting very snarky and in fact demanded I come in when I tried to call in sick with a migraine, I did and was extremely upset... the pain and the feeling I could do nothing about it caused my facade to crack and I could not stop crying. The boss then left (nice of her) and told the assistent manager Not to Let me Leave (which frankly is illigal) so I called HR and left. I also made an appointment with my neurologist, who then put me on this short leave, which is rather ironic. That'l show her to be so snarky!

Hi Myth – It sounds like you're caught in a vicious cycle. I don't know if you're familiar with our sister site, MyMigraineConnection.com. The lead expert there, Teri Robert, is very familiar with fibromyalgia. And I believe one of the other patient experts, Nancy Bonk, has both Migraines and FM herself. I feel sure they can give you some helpful suggestions in your search for an effective Migraine preventive. The Migraine site is set up just like this one, so you can do a SharePost or ask a question. Good luck to you! – Karen
Hey! I actually so frequent there... since my migraines serverly affect me and I am involved in forums and blog groups for that. Plus these chronic pain sites don't seem nearly as active, which is too bad, since I have some specifially FMS related concerns that would be nice to get into. The two do co-mingle a lot though, which sucks big time.
