Hi: I am thinking about starting ELAVIL. Have you taken it? Did it work for you? I have a hard time getting any drug to work for my pain. I have been staying off my feet and have put on the weight. I am thinking this drug might help me get moving.

i think there are many more modern meds you may want to consider first that have lass side effects.

I have taken them all. Other drugs do not help. This is my last try at getting rid of some of the pain.

    Hi Thomas,

I have been on this drug for 2 years now to help treat the pain from my Fibromyalgia. It was the first drug I tried and am happy to say that it has helped me A LOT. I used to be in so much pain that I could barely move. I'm only 24 (was diagnosed at 22)!

My quality of life has improved greatly since starting Amitriptyline. It is a very safe drug, has been on the market for ages.

The most common side effects of this drug are dry mouth, increased sweating and weight gain. I have gained a little weight since starting the drug but not a lot. At the very least it's a motivation to keep me moving!

Everyone reacts differently to medication. What works well for some may not work well (or at all) for others but that certainly doesn't mean that you shouldn't give it a try.

With this drug it takes a while for the medication to build up in your system so it may take you 2-3 weeks before you notice any changes. For me it takes about 2 weeks to notice if the increase in dosage is working. I started out on 10mg and am now up to 75mg.

I hope if you do decide to give Amitriptyline a try that you have success with it. Please keep us updated!

    Cheers,

    Bekah

For the last 12 years, I have sufferred from pain in two places and nothing would touch the pain.  Elavil did.  Since it is a twenty-four hour drug; it is not additive.  It is the only drug that was prescribed to me that works.  Actually; my neck was hurting tonight and I took a half of one and the pain is finally gone.

If you plan to start taking it, you should have some chocolate on hand just in case you start to crave it.  That happens to me sometimes after I take it.  Try it.  You have nothing to loose and "being pain free" to gain.
