The fact is that there are many different kinds of pain that arise from many different causes and that operate by many different mechanisms in our bodies. There is no silver bullet, no single route to maximum pain relief. Unfortunately, much of our medical profession and, for certain, the public ...

7/25/2004 I was in a motorcycle accident. I fractured my neck (I was wearing a helmet), broke all of my ribs and puntcured my lung, broke both shoulders and arms and wrists, ruptured my splien, and damaged my pancreas. I was hospitalized 11 months and a week with out, talking, eating or walking for 10 of those months. A year latter (6/30/2005) I had my last surgery to close an open fistula in my abdomen. Since I was released from the hospital I have experienced severe pain, throughout most of my body. My shoulders ach bad as expected, my ribs hurt (you know the story).

My feet hurt really bad. I did not damage anything lower then my waist at the accident, but my feet feel as they are burning, especially in the morning. I went to a foot doctor, and had some therapy which helped a litlle but they still hurt. I'm only 53, and I hope that I do not have to suffer untill death. Please help!

I don't know what to ask to try and get more pain relief. I was formerly on Oxycontin 80 mg 3x day, Fentanyl patch 100 mg, and MSIR 15 mg 4x day, plus Lyrica. When my last hospitalization showed that my kidneys were only functioning at 20%, and my Hepatitis C had turned into cirrhosis of the liver, then when I overdoses on the PAC morphine machine since my liver doesn't get rid of the narcotics as it should, I have been reduced to methodone, 10 mg 4x a day and MSIR 15 mg 4x a day. It works great -- as long as I just sit and don't move. I take Lactolose to help my body rid itself of the ammonia, so I am forced to "move" whether I want to or not.

Of course any medication with Tylenol or aspirin are out due to my liver. Please can you think of any medications which will help with the pain without causing more liver & kidney damage? I was told the future is grim and I shouldn't expect more than a 20% reduction in pain for what time I have left. I just hate to think of spending it, no matter how long it is, hurting this badly.

Any suggestions would be dearly appreciated.

    Thank you. Charlene
