I am getting a pain pump in nine days why do I have to stop taking all narcotics befor I get the pump?

Why would a doctor inform you to stop taking pain medication if you're in so much pain you must get a pain pump?
That isn't sensible, I've never heard of anyone else going through this? You get the pain pump in nine days from today? You'll be in surgery?
You could ask the doctor for relevance, why you need to quit taking narcotics before you have the pump installed, did he wean you off? This doesen't make ANY sense and sounds VERY dangerous
