Hello everyone,
I just found your website today and so many of you have such inspirational, motivational and meaningful artwork posted here. I was wondering if you'd be interested in helping with a project I am working on. I am co-founder of Art for Cure (www.artforcure.org), and we have been commissioned by the Active Survivors Network (http://activesurvivor.org/) to produce the category awards for their race event in Baltimore in June. In previous years ASN has had survivors of all diseases, afflictions and circumstance decorate ceramic tiles or plates and awarded them to the top 3 winners in each category. This year, Art for Cure is collecting any 2-dimensional, 8 ½ x 11 paper artwork from survivors and adhering them to classic black plaques so they can be hung on a wall or displayed on a desk/table, etc. Over 100 awards are needed, so we need over 100 pieces of original or high res scanned artwork (see specifications below). I would love to speak with you regarding this, so please call if you have any questions or know of more organizations that may be able to help us with this. Thank you in advance for your help.
On a side note, my business partner and I are both 2-time cancer survivors, and our 3rd partner suffers from severe clinical depression. The 3 of us have found our "art" to be quite healing and therapeutic, which is how we came across your site.
Here are the specs:
CALL FOR ARTWORK BY SURVIVORS
Artwork will be used to create the coveted awards for the SurvivorHarbor7 Race, June 8, in Baltimore Maryland
Art for Cure, in partnership with the ArtThread Foundation and the Active Survivors Network, invites submissions of artwork by survivors to be used to create customized awards for the SurvivorHarbor7, a unique race that was the first to include a division for survivors of illness, accidents or people living with disease that compete "head to head" and are recognized for their accomplishments. For the 5th consecutive year, winners in each race division are awarded original works of art hand made by survivors.
Art for Cure is seeking original artwork created by survivors of serious illness, accidents or people living with disease for this purpose.
A theme of "active", "activity", "outdoors", or any theme that the artist is passionate about is preferred. Up to 3 works may be submitted by a survivor.
The artwork is needed immediately. It can be a high resolution scan emailed to JenniferTisch@artforcure.org, or, if sending original, please mail to:
Art for Cure SurvivorHarbor7
1460 Harwell Avenue, Crofton, MD 21114
Submissions must be:
- Any artistic medium (painting, crayon, pen/pencil, etc) that can be created on a standard 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper that is conducive to mounting under glass. Please no noodles, buttons, rice, or other types of artwork that would create a ‘raised' texture.
- The mounting area for the SurvivorHarbor7 award is 8.5 inches wide by 11 inches tall. The submitted artwork size can be sized 11" tall by 8.5" wide, or smaller in the portrait configuration (more tall than wide) any size smaller that fits within those proportions.
- Each donated work of art will be scanned and uploaded for viewing on our web site and also the ArtThread Interactive Gallery (www.artthread.org) .
Awards will be presented to winners on June 8, 2008 at the SurvivorHarbor7 race ceremony in Baltimore, Maryland. We welcome anyone who is able to come out to the event to cheer on the participants and visit the race Village. Art for Cure will have an exhibit and there will also be entertainment, commemorative merchandise and refreshments.
