continualpain

By Dominic Stefanii Tuesday, May 27, 2008

Have had a total of 23 operations, 13 of which were back surgies.  I am fused from C3-C7 and T-8 to S1.

MY first surgery was in 1984, and the last one in 2005.

I take 280MG of Methodone daily.

Do you find that 280 mg of Methadone a day helps as opposed to all the other opiates?  I have migraines, tension headaches, muscles spasms, fibromyalgia, arthritis of cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine with bone spurs, as well as heel spurs and bones spurs causing sharp pain in the back of my achilles tendons.  No need for surgery, not that I would have it, nor the injections after all I have read, except for in my feet and that lasts slightly for about a month.

I would certainly not need that much methadone, but does it help being on a medication that works 24 hrs and does not build a tolerance?  Do you take the pills, disks or liquid?

being on 280mg of Methodone does help to relieve the pain, and I have not built up a tolerance to it.

Unfortunatelly, I have to take 28, 10mg tablets ddaily

I have to take 28, 10mg tablets daily to control, and sometimes that amount is still not enough.  I have been on that dose for well over a year now.   I am not addicted because at times I have taken less without any problems.  Next month I am schedsuled for two more back operations,  One of the titanium rods has broken.  On an X-ray it looks like someone took a knife and just sliced it.  The first surgery is being done so my Dr. can do an anterior fusion at the site where the rod iks broken.  During the second surgery he will either repair, or replace the left titanium rod, which is the broken.  I have no idea what type of pain medication he will send me home on, in the past it has been dilaudid.

i don't know what state you live in but i have in the last 1 1/2 yrs lost 1.my pain doc,but that is ok as she was doing nothing but jacking up my pain meds masking pain doing nothing to fix, don't get me wrong if not for her i would not be here due to pain. she had me (at the end,she lost her DEA license) 640mg methadone,30mg oxycodone tabs qid, oxyfast liquid 20mg/ml 1-2ml q 4-6 hrs, neurontin 600mg qid, soma 350mg qid, ambien one nite, restoril the next. as you can imagine i was scared of walking out of pharmacy,i mite get robbed, then i would be screwed.i have myofascial pain syndrome between shoulder blades (my 17 y/o daughter has it also, another area though).i was given myobloc that helped the MPS for 30 days then i flew off our deck from icy snow shattered my L1,no one told me i broke my back so went back to my job as nurse in nursing home after 9 days, that sucked.anyway in may 2008 got a medtronic pain pump implanted, what a wonderful wonderful difference,my meds went way down methadone being from 640mg to 300mg immediately. did you know methadone can stop your heart, bam just like that? i have been working on my own to decrease my methadone use,i was down to about 180mg to 250mg a day, then sept 2 2009 i fell out of bed,32" broke my pump catheter, did not know until i was sent to a new pump doc,as my the one that put the pump in moved out of state xrayed my back (i went after falling but they were looking for more fx's not broke catheter) he said i HAD to get my meth down or i could die,i was back up to 300mg+ due to new pain. the surgery went well, my tx at hosp sucked, this was just a few days ago.it can take up to 6mths to get meth out of your system they took me off right after surgery i was pissed. i cannot say how it will go but i am now on 60mg meth a day,15mg oxycodone qid,10mg valium tid,and 0.1mg clonidine. if not allergic you can get a mix in a pump,i only have baclofen for spasms i am allergic to dilauded/morphine but am going to find out what else can be put in the pump and find a doc that is not leaving NM that does pumps. you need help,we don't want your heart to stop bam!!!! look for a pump doc,it is great there are things i cannot do,hot tubs, hot over 102 degrees a few other things but after may 2008 surgery i went outside after not being outside in over 4 yrs and did light yard work,it was wonderful to feel the sun on my face i was told i looked better too. good luck, don't know if my story will help but hopefully, good luck God bless.
