About 5 days ago I started having pain in cheek, jaw, rt side of my head and my neck down to my shoulder. Last night the pain got so bad that my mother(who is a RN) brought me to the ER. I've heard so many of these horror stories that I cannot even believe that this still happens and that all the legitimate chronci pain patients have not contacted their state medical boards over this treatment.

I've been instructed by my own physician to carry certain pertaining records with me when I travel with all the information that he wants to give them, so they will know that I am a legitimate chronic pain patient, incase I have to ever go into emergency for any reason.  I normally am able to control my pain with my already prescribed medications and have fortunately not had to use an emergency room since I've been in pain.  But I'm sure your jaw pain was not expected and certainly one cannot plan for such dreaded occaisions.

I'm really sorry that you were treated so poorly, I guess we can blame all the drug seekers out there for our treatment and how every pain patient must be forced into this kind of horrible treatment.

I'm really glad you have a regular doctor who cares and I hope your able to find some relief from your TMJ along with your other pain illnesses.

    Kristi:

I read your post and just shake my head regarding all we have to deal with !  I'm so sorry about your ER experience, - that's exactly why I do not go, when I know that anyone with an ounce of sense WOULD go with the amount of pain I have.  I shared my experience on this site this past week, about calling the Dr's. office to say I was in such pain I thought I'd best go to ER, but the Dr. just said, "take your PRN meds," as though I hadn't thought of it ??????  Well, I did not go, 'cause I didn't want to deal with all the explanations of "where do you hurt," "when did it start," (how about 30 yrs. ago!), "have you had a fever," etc., etc.,  Now I know this is necessary, and it wouldn't be so bad if they, after asking these questions and getting the answeres, would just BELIEVE you.  I'm on a real "kick" about it all this week, and reading your post, Kristi, only reinforces my frustration.  I recently had an MRI of my jaws and found that the discs are deteriorated and dislocated on both sides, so I'd be interested in knowing what you're doing for the TMJ.

You're welcome.  None of us are ever really alone, it just feels that way quite often.  Hang in there...
