PHARMACY NAZIS IN HAWAII

By mj or malia io Thursday, March 25, 2010

my pharmacy was out of my pain meds this month and told me i should go to safeway. i went and the pharmacist told me that since i wasn't a regular customer he couldn't fill my script, he had to save his oxycodone for his regular customers, has anyone heard of this? is it legal? i went to 5 pharmacies and each one had a reason to not fill my script. what can i do about this situation.

pharmacists on this island seem to be trying to over-ride the doctors these days and i don't know why. my doctor is very careful about my medication and i find it insulting that the drug store apears to be second guessing my doctor who i've seen for 20 years and i feel like they're discriminating against me by not filling my scripts. has anyone else experienced a similar situation?

No, I live on the mainland and I've never had an issue with my pharmacist or pharmacy filling my prescriptions. Sounds like this is a local problem and that you should complain to the corporate offices of the pharmacies that you went to since apparently they have discriminated against you. This is my humble opinion..... Take care,

Last year at this time, there was a shortage of oxycodone.  (Read: Oxycodone Shortage)  I thought that had pretty much been resolved, but perhaps Hawaii is just now feeling the effects of it.  I'd suggest talking with your regular pharmacist and ask whether there is a shortage or what the problem is.  If it looks like this may be an ongoing problem, you may need to talk with your doctor about switching to a different medication until it is resolved.
