    Aloha mj or Malia io

    it's nice to meet you!

I too have hesitated with starting or trying many of the newer medications on the market today.  It seems they all have some many side effects and I am just not willing at this time to try a medication that the possible side effects far out weigh the benefits in my eyes.

I'm glad you've taken control of your health and medications.  We are our own best advocates, we know our bodies and we are the only ones who can say NO!

I've been on the same meds for several years now and I've gotten used to the side effects that are significant for me, learned to work around them and deal with them and am not at all interested in trying something new that may cause some serious reactions.

I hope your doing well, thank you for sharing your experience and hopefully you'll come by to visit when your able.

    Take Care

    Gentle hugs

    Betty

I think it's a good idea to be wary of medications, but not at the risk of being in pain. So know your body, but don't risk having more pain.  One thing I really believe in is the powerful affect that accupuncture can have when used in conjunction with traditional medicine.  It's good for flushing out the bad reactions that medications cause, and keeping the energy flowing in the liver and kidneys, where medications seem to settle. I'm not a doctor, but have used accupuncture for over ten years, along with my pain medications and other meds, and I find that I feel better after a few rounds, and everything seems to work better. Some say mind over matter, but who cares?  It's well worth a try, and a step closer to healing on a more natural and organic level, without the use of more medications.  I sleep better, my bowels work better, and I get up and go-go alot more often.  Good luck!

Just because you're not experiencing any new side effects, can you really be certain that after "years" your body's not having any problems with them?  Out of the blue, when I went to have blood testing done prior to a neurostimulator being placed in my spine, the test came back with my kidneys working at only 20%. There are no tumors, kidney specialist found no defects, they are just loosing ground due to the medications that I have taken for years.

Over the counter meds like tylenol and ibuprofen never leave your body...they just continue to build up in your liver. My blood pressure medication, which was basically just lasix, nearly blew out my kidneys.  It turned out all the diuretics in the world wouldn't help with my legs & feet swelling.

I'm sure you are correct that your long term meds are doing what they are supposed to, but some doctors don't bother with blood tests unless a problem does arise. So, just to be really certain, ask for blood tests at least every 6 months. It never hurts to be "proactive" and catch something before its too late.
