3 years ago I fell eleven ft. to a concrete floor. resulting in 9 pelvic fractures, broken right arm, several herniated discs, and closed head injury 4 head bleeds. Have seen 3 neurosurgeons for the pain, that radiates from my right hip to my foot this is pain in the front and backside of my leg. thought i was going to get relief with surgery on my herniated L5S1, but this new doctor says this not my major problem, pain is probably coming from all the hip/pelvic injuries. GREAT. now its back to CATscans, bone density tests, pain meds. when do i learn that this following statement is a fact "learn to live with it". I am warn down and tired of being in pain. TIred of living on Vicadin. I know my spouse is tired also, but we just dont seem to talk about it. I feel so alone. Yes, I am blessed to be alive, to walk, talk. Tired of observing life and not feeling like I participate, not in all the activities i used to enjoy to do. I live in paradise, Hawaii. It hurts to snorkel, I miss the underwater world. I miss walking on the beach, it hurts to much. There are NO pain management groups on Maui, believe that. Guess that what its about when you life in a destination resort.

Hi Meleana – Welcome to ChronicPainConnection! I'm sorry to hear you've been through so much and are having so much pain. While you may have to learn to live with a certain amount of pain, you shouldn't have to be in severe pain all of the time. As pain relievers go, Vicodin is fairly mild. There are lots more options for you to get relief so you can begin to enjoy your life again.
Although I don't know much about what is available in Hawaii, we have a gentleman on our forum that may be able to help. His name is Bob Englebardt and he lives in Hawaii (I don't know exactly where). He started and moderates a thread in the General Discussion section entitled, “Willing to share experience with intrathecal morphine pump implant.” Just go to the last page on that thread and do a post asking him if he has any suggestions or recommendations. Even though you don't have a pain pump, I'm sure he'll be happy to help you if he can.
(Note: If you've never been to the forum before, you'll have to register separately from your registration here on ChronicPainConnection. You can, however, use the same e-mail address and password if you like to make it easier to remember.)
Good luck to you. I hope you're able to find a good doctor and get some help for your pain. – Karen
