John Hopkins handout on FM suggest presence of "trigger points" as diagnostic. This is not so. Following is my response to them.
I am disheartened that John Hopkins would publish a paper stating that FM patients have trigger points. This is just not so. They have tender points. Trigger points are knotted up muscle fibers that cause referred pain and restriction of motion. This is not the case with the tender points of fibromyalgia. Please don't mislead people who hold you in the highest esteem. It is important for you to understand exactly what you are printing, and this misuse of terms that can lead to a misdiagnosis and untimately the wrong treatment. Please, please get this information to the correct people. Thank you for your intentions, they are appreciated, but it is imperative that the information is correct.

I couldn't agree more! There is a very distinct and important difference between tender points and trigger points. I found the handout your are referring to and it saddens me to see that an institution as highly respected as Johns Hopkins would publish something with such a basic error.
