daughter in extreme pain..HELP

By Angie_d Monday, April 28, 2008

My 12 year old daughter has had some pain in her ankles over the last week.  Yesterday she started getting sharp, squeezing, burning pain in both feet.  This has not stopped ever since and I'm at a loss as to what to do.  I've tried everything for her.  The doctor this morning barely gave her a once over...after a 2.5 hour wait. HELP!!!

Well, first off..i think you need to find a MD thats going to listen to you and your daughter to find out what the cause is of all this. How did the pain start? a fall? did it just happen? Is she able to walk and excersis alittle to stretch it? any XRAY's been done? id like to hear more details so i can give you the best support for you and your daughter. Because right now its hard to help when we dont know if its a muscle pain or a fracture (bone type) of pain.

I am very glad you have joined our CPC site to discuss whats been going on with your daughter. There are TONS of wonderful people on this site to help...me included Smile but if you can, please tell us more about whats been going on.

Best wishes and you as well as your daughter will be in my prayers. -Kim

It's so nice to finally get an answer.  We saw the pediatrician today and got more support than yesterday.  She had bloodwork done today, (boy was that a battle!), to check for arthritis, CBC, ANA, LDH, ESR, and a variety of other things.  She is also to use crutches to assist her to return to school.  She hasn't been this week due to the pain when she walks.  She will also see a foot specialist next week who deals in orthotics.

To back up a bit...this pain came on gradually, through the course of a day.  It seems to be muscle/ligament type pain.  She describes it as "BURNING, squeezing, sharp, shooting pain"  As for advice on pain control from the doctor, "Tylenol and Advil", which is totally not helping.  She's very upset and very angry and I'm at wits end!!! Any advice is welcome. Cry

Hello Angie_D. I couldn't wait to write to you. I've never been on this particular site before and was looking under the chronic pain section with regards to my daughter and myself. I have fibromyalgia, diebetes, sever degenerative disc disease and severe sleep apnea. My daughter who is 12 years old has fibromyalgia and RSD which is reflex sympathetic dystrophy. It took a lot of doctors, tests, meds (including morphone) and emergency rooms to finaly get a correct diagnosis. Please take a look at this website:

http://www.rsds.org/index2.html

she had very bad pain in her ankles and then it spread throughout her left leg. Her leg turned purple pink at times and felt much colder to the touch than the other leg. Not all the time, sometimes. Also she then started to not like anything touching her leg. It was very painful. Even a slight tough like someone putting a hand on her leg she would shreak in pain. Please look into this for your daughter. Not many doctors know about RSD so save yourself a lot of trouble and visits and find a doctor that has excesive dealings with patients that have RSD. If I can be of any more help please get in touch with me :  fjord54@yahoo.com

Hi and sorry for the delay in response!  My place is crazy with stress and chaos!.  I really appreciate your information.  It actually turned out that her arches have fallen!!  We were very surprised.  Now come the $150 for shoes then the orthotics and getting her to do the exercises.  I myself have severe fibromyalgia, NOT controlled diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, migraines and lack of sleep.

I'm on a variety of medication which doesn't do too much.  I just wanted to throw my info in there somewhere.  Hope you and your daughter are well.

Hi Angie_d, nice to hear from you. I pray that this was her problem with only having fallen arches. But I just want you to know that they originally told my daughter that she had flat feet and that was why she had leg pains, along with the "growing pains". She had the lifts in her shoes, PT and exercises she had to do, it helped a bit, she was OK for awhile, but then the pains started again, she got better, pains kept coming back, worse every year she got older. X-rays taken, they showed nothing....sorry to hear about your problems with Fibro, diabetes, etc. Have you been able to have any meds that work for you for the pain? I haven't, I've been through a lot of meds, patches and the latest and greatest "Lyrica" which only made me sick and did nothing. Take care, I pray you and your daughter will be well. Holly
