I have been taking 80 mg Kadian twice a day, and 30 mg. oxycodone 4 x day for breakthrough. Also Fioricet for severe migraines. I had "knee replacement surgery" less than a week ago. My pain management Dr. gave me "MSIR" 30 mg to take when I got home from the hospital. It hasn't helped much with the "pain from the surgery". While in hospital (post surgery), they kept a "block" in, and used morphine pump 1 mg, every 8 min., and "demoral shots 50 mg" to get me over pain. Now home 2 days, and "MSIR 30 mg" twice a day , and it isn't helping very much. Any suggestions?

Hello Nwichlet
It's nice to meet you and Welcome to the Chronic Pain Connection.
If I were you, I would call your doctors office and let them know how high your pain is on a scale from 1-10 before, after taking meds and how soon the meds are wearing off or if they are not working at all. At this early stage in your recovery, I would definately let them know right away that your meds are just not working out for you. Everyone of us are different and different meds work better on each one of us. the meds you mentioned are both very good pain relieving meds, so maybe it's the dosage your at or this type of med is just not a good choice for you.
I hope you call and I also hope they will get you some relief. Please don't wait too long, as they really should know about your pain levels and you don't want the excessive pain to interfere with your healing.
Take Care, nice to meet you and I hope it get some relief
Betty
Hi, Thank you for your reply. I contacted my "pain mgmt" Dr, and saw my Surgeon today to have the staples removed. Although my recovery is where it should be. My Surgeon gave me some stronger pain medication today, so hopefully it will work. Wish me luck. Nwichlet
