FDA statement on Tramadol

For heavens sakes, now the FDA is warning about Tramadol being dangerous as an opiod, with addiction and suicide warnings.

I am allowed five 50 mg. of tramadol a day for pain and it works about the same as ibuprofen, but if I take them together, I can keep some of the edge off pain.

I do not believe that the FDA is doing anything to help patients with chronic pain get help. When Tramadol came out years ago, my doctors gave it to me in place of ibuprofen as my stomach is so messed up. I have never felt "high" or like I neededc to take extra.  I certainly would not sell them as I need them for pain. As far as suicide, there are many anti depressants that are handed out like "candy" that are more effective to end life.

That was aprox. 15 years ago when they gave out huge bottle of percocet and fentenayl patches because it was considered humatarion to relieve pain, so I stopped taking tramadol. Now I feel ashamed to take that, and I had to BEG my doc for that. I now am at the point that I have to stay in bed 2+ days per week that if I was allowed Vicodin I would be able to function past the pain, not HIH either.

I know that my pain clinic treats many alcholics so have become that way from trying to ease their pain in the only legal (however dangerous) method to self-medicate. It has been shown that many patients who are considered "alcoholic" do NOT abuse prescription medications as there are instructions and controls to limit their use.

In case you hadn't noticed, the FDA at (many times at the behest of the DEA) are not interested in easing yours or anybody else's pain.  Their job, along with other govt. agencies is to make sure they justify their own budgets. Their secondary job is to cover their tails by making sure that everything that falls under their watch has warnings that cover the most probable to the least probable of hazards.  Since we aren't given the detailed information regarding these substances, we may not know that it takes 39 cases of cyclamate sweetened soda a day to give a rat cancer of the kidneys.
