Good Morning,

You have reached the stage for aggressive assistance. You need to find out what discs are herniated, and find a way to get surgery to relieve your lower back pain. Living on meds is not the way to go because of the long-term addiction possibilities. If your doctor won't listen, find a new doctor. I don't mean to preach, but I had to find a new doctor and worked with my health plan to do that. Having a doctor who respects you is essential. Also, it might feel like you must work, but depending on your job, you can file for both short-term and long-term disability, and then seek Federal help through SSDI. It isn't perfect, but it's a measure of security. And about those dark thoughts....please find friends, a minister, family members...anyone who can help you remember the good times and the good things in your life. Take things in 15-minute segments, and good luck.

hi sharon, damn you have been thru the ringer, huh? i know how it is about not being able to get pain meds, i had to finally go to my g/p and plead my case, he KNOWS about my pain, and is very sympathetic, hhe even faxed the pain clinic i WAS going to ( wh the administator called me and basically told me not to come back!!) to ask them to help, but w/ no help. my g/p told me cannot administer pain meds for an ongoing time, so when he stops , i don't know where to go..i have been all around my state to get help w/ my back and i think this dr. i  am going to right now ( a real ass) BUT he may have found out what is wrong w/ my back, and is going to do a procedure to deaden the nerves around my discs that were messed up when the car hit me!!! it is supposed to last from 6 months to a year and i sure hope it works, i am pretty excited to get this procedure and see if it REALLy works!!! hon, i am so sorry you are still in pain..anything i can do to helpp?? i am so here for you...have you talked to a therapist as i suggested? i KNOW it does not relieve your pain, i have been to 3 therapists and finally found 1 i think i can talk to about everything, since my husband has basically given up on me :(..BUT, i keep thinking about my kiddos, whom, we had a real challenging summer with (she is going out w/ a real loser who doesn't work, does drugs and basically is taking her for all she has)...if you want i can tell you about my summer so far :) it has'nt been a real good one, so maybe you DON"T want to hear about it :) :)!!!!..i know you have been to so many drs., as have i, it really sucks , doesn't it? sharon, truly, i am HERE for you..i will listen to you as long as you write!!! and i will be your friend for as long as you need me to...hugs, cindi

Cindi & Sharon,

I just picked up on your conversation & I have to tell you the epidural shots do work. I had my first ones last week. The Dr would only do 2 of the 8 I need in my lower back because he wants me on more Valium before the procedure. I was so scared. I had no idea what they were gonna do? Could they miss? Would it work? NO this is not a fun procedure. and if you've had an epi for child birth you can throw that experience out the window with this. They are not alike. I know that each of us has a different reaction, but even with just the 2 shots I had I can tell you that there is a difference in the pain I deal with. Talk to your Dr & everyone else that you can. You never know who will be the right connection to get you extra help. Unfortunately GP's while able to do everything medically they can't treat cronic pain, but they can make a reccomendation/referral for you. Mine reffered me to the specialist he works with. I didn't need a refferal for insurance but it is making a difference for the pm to know I have someone else involved in my care I think.

hi, i HAVE had 2 epi procedures and they did not work for me, where i am so glad they worked for you..they obviously do not work for everyone. i have had 8 injections and each one failed to give me any relief...i do NOT want to keep taking pain meds, belive me, when and if they are finally to be able to fix my back, i am certainly not looking forward to the withdrawals from the pain meds, because you see, i thought when they first started prescribing pain meds for me..i believe they were at too high a dosage..150 mg fentanyl and 180 mg. oxy twice daily..i took myself off the oxy "cold turkey" and went thru pure hell.  as i said i am glad the epi worked for you, but do believe it does not work for everyone! cindi

I am 52 and was very active until 5 years ago I got Diabetic neuropathy of both feet, I went through every pain pill made, I started 1cc 2 mg dilaudid injections about 2 months ago and what a change. I saw a therapist and everyone always told me hang in there so I know how your feeling, so sorry you have the pain and just keep trying , there will be answer and don't listen to 1 doctor, it took me 13 doctors to find someone who cared and was willing to take a chance with me with my dilaudid injections, I hope you get better soon, please contact me if you need someone to talk to, been there for a long time.

I wrote to you on your previous sharepost and I'm worried about you. Please don't give in to your suicidal thoughts. I have the same thoughts from time to time because of my severe pain. My late husband had chronic pain and he did commit suicide. To be fair about it I'm not sure exactly why he shot himself. We were three days away from our divorce being final. Anyway, it just about did my kids in when he killed himself. Keep trying to get help for your pain and help for your depression. Please write back and let me know how you are doing. My private messaging part doesn't work so wrte back to me here. Please take care of yourself. There are people that care and I'm one of them. Don't give up.
