Medical Chronic Pain Management via Tele-medicine

By jhazel Thursday, March 25, 2010

Pain management clinics are every where and require patients to take time off work, drive through traffic and sit in a waiting room every month. What are your thoughts or opinions about care via Tele-Medicine.

A pain management physician referral service offers to create, upload & store medical records, they provide a free Rx savings card and provide mapquest to the doctors office. The best thing about these companies seems to be you only have to drive to the physician 3 times per year and the subsequent montly visits are done via Tele-consultation on either phone or webcam. If the physician writes to a refill or new Rx then he e-scripts or calls your pharmacy. I know that none of the Tele-medicine/clinic doctors write for anything stronger than Schedule III.

What chronic pain conditions would this be appropriate for? Does a person with the same problem year after year after year need to go to the physician every months for a condtions that will not change?

For that matter why not use Tele-medicine for people with ADD or ADHD some of them have been taking Adderall or Ridalin for many years. Besides the requirements for having original scripts there is no reason for most of the patients to have the traditional montly office visit. Why not only see the doc 3 or 4 times a year then follow up with Tele-medicine?

DoctorsonDemand.com has physicians for Pain Management, Medical Weight Loss and Psychiatry/Mental Health (ADD, HDAD, Mens Health, Anxiety & Stress).

Only 3 in-office visits per year! Physicians are only able to help those with chronic conditions whos prescriptions don't typically change throught the year.

Thank you

I don't know if this consitutes Tele-medicine but DoctorsonDemand.com has a program setup that allows the patient to see a pain management physician every 4 months with Tele-consults inbetween office visits. They do write for Schedule III & Iv and they call your Rx into your pharmacy. I do not see any reason to go to my local pain clinic every month.......

I hope this helps some of you.

Have a blessed day.
