ive learned that i will get no were with my health issue if i dont stand up and take control of what the doctors do to me,i keep and journal,of all my doctor appts,in there i write why i went, what the doctor told me and i write all new meds in there and any meds they may have stopped, then at the end of each month i update my meds records, and the reason i do this is cause the doctors only have a few min to see you and lets say today they told me im dibetic they give you meds and an blood glocuse meter and send you home ok,they didnt tell me what was normal sugar levels or bad levels so when i get home i go research, and get another jornal and write in there what i found an on next app i ask questions,oh and another list i have and keep with me at all times is what ive been diganoised with so in an emergeny my kids and friends know to look for my lil pink bag and all my medical info is in there, well you take care i do hope you fill better real soon god bless you

thank you for your post, very well said, and sad to say some doctors and nurses are that way,but i learned along time ago from my grams that theres more then one way to do things what works for one wont work for others, and alot of doctors are stuck in an one way mode,i was seeing this one doctor and she would not see me no more because when she gave me new meds i would ask her what are they for,how long do i have to take them, and let me call the pharmacey to make sure its ok to take this, she said im the doctor i know what im doing and what you need an i remined her that she gave me not once but six times the wrong meds or to high of an dose, well after i said that i went home and later that day she called and said she will not be able to see me any more because i was not willing to follow her orders,i told her no problem cause i belive i have the right to ask the whys and what fors, and i told her no one was going to take that right from me,

Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 06:32 PMI have fibromyalhgia and am on disability. I have been given a host of narcotic drugs for 4 yrs. I also was attacked by a chow dog and had a serious infection in my leg which is still in my knee after more than 4 months. My doctor found out that she had given pain meds to some people who were selling them because they were caught by the police. So she took everyone off their pain meds. I was on Norco , xanax and flexiril. I hated the way I felt but the pain felt worse. But she took me off cold turkey I went home and went through withdrawals all by myself after 4 years I called daily asking for something to help me with my withdrawals. She couldn't have cared less so I reported her to the medical assoc. I am 58 yrs.old and it was the worst thing I have ever gone through. Because of my heart condition I can't take Lyrica or any of the new meds for fibromyalgia. So today after I have gone through all the withdrawals she gave me etodolac. I am hoping that it will work my condition as it is not a narcotic. You have to stick up for your self and not let the drs. give you a hard time telling you how addicted you are and if you are they need to help you I could have had a heart attack just going through the withdrawals. I am glad I am not on narcotics any more I feel like my brain works but after being on them for 4 yrs. and dumped on the side walk to go through the most awful time in my life I now read up on everything they give me.

I'm so glad that you got the treatment that you truly deserved and warranted. No doctor or nurse or consultant should feel they have the power to disrespect a patient and therefore give them inferior treatment that may mean they are in pain or discomfort. I have had problems in the UK for years. I am a mental health advocate myself but find it so hard to speak up for myself regarding my pain! I now have my own advocate who gives me support and help when I go for treatment or meetings. So well done on being persistant and I hope your pain is bearable and without too many side effects.
