i was in the hospital and after 4 days of iv injections of dilaudin, every 4 hours, the attending said no more pain meds the pain you are feeling dosent warrent you have to have pain meds,he said you must be addicted to pain meds that why you keep asking for them, well i did cuss him out and them explained were and how bad the pain was and he said to bad and stopped my meds.i cried for and few hours because he made me feel like and drug addict and every time the nurses came in they treated me so different then before the doc had made that statement.so after awhile i called the complaint line for the hospital, and some lady came and i explained to her what happened and she got so mad called the doc to my room and she demanded he give me and apology,i could tell it was said for the benifet of her and not me but all the same she got him to restore my pain meds, and if the pain was really bad, they gave me a pain pill after three hours, two days later a new doctor saw me,and apoglized for the action of the other doctor he reviewed my tests and said he was going to give me an higher dose of my pain meds cause they found an very big kidney stone that was trying to pass, and i had an serious bladder infection, and because of that they were going to place and stint in my bladder, and i had a very bad bacteria infection in my stomach so i was giveing and very high dose of two different antibiotics, and i had an fistula near my anus, that was inflammed, and on top of that from the antibiotics they were all ready giveing me i got a really bad case of an yeast infection, then they moved me out of a room i was shareing because they said the bacteria infection was contagious, but still the nurses treated me like a dog so after 28 days i told them no more im checking out the lady who had came for my complaint was called into see me and she explained the bacteria infection was still not cleared up and if i wanted to go home i would have to have an pick line installed so i did that and went home they gave me an nurse to come check on me so on the fourth day of me being home she came out and she was there only for app 15min i told her what happend at the hospital and she called the hospital and spoke to someone and she told them she was reporting them to some one canet remember, then she called my regular doctor she told him what was going on and he made a house call in under 30 min and he checked me out he called in an order to have an nurse come give me my pain shots every 4 hours the last one for the day ws at 11 pm at an real high dose and an order for vicodin number 10 he said if i woke up from pain and it ws really bothering me to take 1 every 4 to six hours and if that didnot work to go to the other hospital in our town, well let me tell you this i was feeling like a queen for 4 months,it took that long to get all matters cleared up,and it got my regular doctor to review all my illness and redo all my meds im not pain free but it's more were now i can tolerate what pain i do have.and my doctor spends more time with me.so never give up no matter how ashamed you get from something some one says about your pain meds, get up and get calling some one above your doctor,i called the mayors office, and got so much needed help,so when all fails call you local goverment they will get you in touch with some programs that will help you, happely liveing life now.

I'm so glad that you got the treatment that you truly deserved and warranted. No doctor or nurse or consultant should feel they have the power to disrespect a patient and therefore give them inferior treatment that may mean they are in pain or discomfort. I have had problems in the UK for years. I am a mental health advocate myself but find it so hard to speak up for myself regarding my pain! I now have my own advocate who gives me support and help when I go for treatment or meetings. So well done on being persistant and I hope your pain is bearable and without too many side effects. dear anonymous
thank you for your post, very well said, and sad to say some doctors and nurses are that way,but i learned along time ago from my grams that theres more then one way to do things what works for one wont work for others, and alot of doctors are stuck in an one way mode,i was seeing this one doctor and she would not see me no more because when she gave me new meds i would ask her what are they for,how long do i have to take them, and let me call the pharmacey to make sure its ok to take this, she said im the doctor i know what im doing and what you need an i remined her that she gave me not once but six times the wrong meds or to high of an dose, well after i said that i went home and later that day she called and said she will not be able to see me any more because i was not willing to follow her orders,i told her no problem cause i belive i have the right to ask the whys and what fors, and i told her no one was going to take that right from me,
hi wendell707
ive learned that i will get no were with my health issue if i dont stand up and take control of what the doctors do to me,i keep and journal,of all my doctor appts,in there i write why i went, what the doctor told me and i write all new meds in there and any meds they may have stopped, then at the end of each month i update my meds records, and the reason i do this is cause the doctors only have a few min to see you and lets say today they told me im dibetic they give you meds and an blood glocuse meter and send you home ok,they didnt tell me what was normal sugar levels or bad levels so when i get home i go research, and get another jornal and write in there what i found an on next app i ask questions,oh and another list i have and keep with me at all times is what ive been diganoised with so in an emergeny my kids and friends know to look for my lil pink bag and all my medical info is in there, well you take care i do hope you fill better real soon god bless you
