I have stage 4 lung cancer and have been on oxicotin and roxicodone for a year and a half now. Last month I got the generic version of oxicotin but couldn't get the roxicodone. Does any one anything about how long the shortage will last?

My husband has stage 4 lung cancer with brain mets and also pain from numerous back surgeries. He was taking about 10 different pain meds (norco, morphine, dilaudid, valium, haldol, fentanyl patches, ativan, etc). The Hospice doctor suggested methadone and he is now off the dilaudid, norco and morphine. The methadone controls his pain well and hopefully, we will be able to get off some of the other pain meds he is still on.
I haven't heard anything new on when the shortage may be over, but I wouldn't count on it being anytime soon. Even when the manufacturers that had to shut down reopen their plants, it will take time to make and start shipping them again.
You might ask your doctor about switching you to liquid oxycodone, since there isn't a shortage of it, or a different medication until the shortage is resolved.
