I've been all around this site, but I don't think I've been in the right place at the right time or something. I am struggling to find something to ask my doctor to give me for pain management. In a way, I am lucky. I have diagnosis of both rheumatoid arthritis and degenerative disc disease, so there is no problem with being prescribed narcotics like some of you with those horrid soft tissue injuries that hurt like the devil but never show up on x-ray. My problem is different from that. Back in July, while getting standard blood work done for a procedure which inserts a device in your spine that causes electrical jolts that are supposed to take away the pain.
Well as I have written before, and I apologize for duplicating myself, it turned out my kidneys were at only 20% effeciency and my liver is being destroyed by cirrhosis of the liver. I was heading for a morphine pump until I overdosed on the morphine push button machine because my liver & kidneys just don't rid my body of the narcotics at any specified rate.
So since July I have struggled on Methadone, 10 mg 4x a day and Morphine, fast acting, 15 mg 4x a day, along with Xanax and an anti-depressant. The doctor who admitted me from the clinic where I have been going for over 3 years knows that it was his mistake for not checking my chart and calling in orders by phone until my respiration got down to 3 per minute and my pulse 30. So now he has decided that I need to "lower my expectations" about pain management and get by on just a 30% reduction. Before this incident, I was taking 3 80 mg oxycontin, morphine, 15 mg 4x a day, and had a fentanyl patch of 100 ml. I know this was a LOT of narcotics but dog gone it, I was in a LOT of pain. I couldn't even make my Malto-Meal because I couldn't stand at the stove for the 3 minutes required to make it.
Well, I think the Narcan they gave me lowered my resistance to pain, and I was doing well on the 4 Methadone & 4 Morphine. Well, it's not anymore. I have been up vacuuming every morning at 2:30 am, if I fix something to eat I am too tired to eat it, and my grocery shopping is limited to about 20 minutes. It's a heck of a way to live. If the Good Lord is only going to give me 5 more years or so, as the doctor told me, I don't want to spend it suffering and not even able to pick up my 3 yr old granddaughter to put her in my chair with me.
Can anyone please suggest something? I have an appointment in a couple of days with my PA whom was responsible for getting me my disability, and who just wants me to be comfortable. The physician who is head of the clinic once offered to pull a tooth for me that was horribly swollen because I had no insurance waiting for my settlement.
Any thoughts would be so appreciated. I can't take aspirin or tylenol due to my liver disease which was just Hepatitis C in remission from a $12
tatoo until I went on Enbrel. Thanks to all, Char
