Swelling on right side only

I was put on Neurontin, but was giving me problems. My ankle swelled up huge. My next app. i showed a pic of my ankle to the dr. and she finally took me off it, but im still having the swelling when ever it feels like it. Now most recently my hand/fingers are swelling. Both on right side. Was wondering if anybody know's what is going on, since dr. does'nt seem concerned.

My fingers/knuckels are locking up, just getting stuck. It is impossible to get them unstuck. I just have to wait and they release on thier own. Sometimes 10 min, sometimes 2 hours. I can not make a fist with left/right hand.

When arm is bent or im holding a phone my arm/hand goes numb instantly or on puter. I drop stuff and don't even know until it hit the ground. I dropped a whole bottle of crystal light (water bottle) yesturday and of course it hit my swollen foot. That's my luck...

So i was just wondering if anyone know's what is happening to me. The Neurologist i waited to see for over 3 months just treated me like i have the flu. No help what so ever.

Hey Arlene

I've not talked to you in awhile and wanted to stop by and say Hello. Your still having the swelling issues huh?? I don't remember, but are you taking Lyrica?? I was thinking you were, and then thought I had you confused with another person again. Sorry

I'm not sure if the neurontin does this or not, but I do know that Lyrica does and some people have quite a bit of problem with the swelling issues.

I've had some trouble with holding things and dropping them too. I'm not sure what this is exactly caused by, but I would think it was a possible neurological issue. My arms & legs go numb, tingle, burn, loose strength, etc all the time and I really have to be careful I pay attention when I'm holding something. With small children, this could be dangerous for you I'm sure. I would not even hold my brand new neice when she was born for this very reason. So I'm sure it's distressing for you and I understand.

Let me know if your taking lyrica and I'll try to look some info up for you.

Hello sweetie,im in mid 40s and started havin swelling of my feet and ankles as well,i had swellinjg when younger,not near like now: due too being on feet to long. Im now obverwieght and was diagnosed with COPD and disc problems,1in back and 1 in neck,My doctor acts like the swelling in from my back ,i also take estradial which causes swelling(water gain)but lately my feet and ankles have became very painful and the bottoms of my feet burn sometimes.My Grandpa had the burning and pain but mot so much swelling and he walked every morning,he was told he had too much uric acid in his blood even though he didnt drink beer,wine,ect or eat those kind of foods that cause uric acid,i also had a doc tell me my sweeling and pain was due to gout.I thought gout just got in joints and was due too drinking,but doc says it can get in connective tissues too and can be inherited so ask your doctor for a uric acid blood test,it isnt painful,just a stick in the finger.I take allopurinal and it helps alot with swelling and the pain,hop this helped,good luck-kim

I'm not sure if the neurontin does this or not, but I do know that Lyrica does and some people have quite a bit of problem with the swelling issues.

Let me know if your taking lyrica and I'll try to look some info up for you.

Hello there,

Yes i had taken Lyrica for about 2 months or so, but after gainning 30 pounds and that's when my knee's started also. The dr. had me on 3 different doses. But i made the decision 2 stop them, because that was 2 much weight and im still trying to loose it.

Yeah, my fingers/arms have gotten really bad, the worse is when im sleeping. I wake up like every hour to put my arm straight down and rub, shake the numbness out. I have to sleep on my back all the time now, and that stinks cauz i was always a stomach sleeper. It hurts so bad, it burns.

The neurontin was awful and i wish i would of stuck w/ my instinct on that one. My feet/ankles swell up when ever they feel like it. I have more problems now and other ones got worse. Im just fed up and every time i get sent somewhere elese i just get so defensive now, i know how i will be treated and i know thier gonna say i just don't know, so here try this med.

The med the neurologist gave me is still sitting at the pharmacy and i told them not to fill it, cauz im not taking it. Im trying to remember the name, but i don't recall. I know i looked it up and it was a anti-depressant/anti- something and the side-effect were outragous and also had withdrawls.

I told the neurologist that i can not take anti-depressants, because my body just don't like them and i black out along with getting very paranoid,and irritable/angry.

Thanks to the neurontin (being sarcastic) i had a big blow out w/ my fience over the stupidest thing and i just feaked out big time. Just because i missed 1 dose. So now i refuse to take that kind of meds.

I told the neurologist also that i get opposite reactions from meds, and of course he acted like i said i had the flu or something. He was so rude and unprofessional. I don't know if u read what he said 2 me, but he say's what is fm anyways, so i explained to him. He said fiber meaning fiberous tissue and myalgia meaning muscle. So then he said if i got hit in my arm w/ a ball, i could call it Fibromyalgia. It took everything i had not to knock him out. Of course i walked out crying, and so lost. He had made an app. 4 an EMG for the numbness in my fingers, hands and arms. The app. was 2marrow, but they canceled it cause the office that comes 2 my town to do the EMG does not accept my ins. But they said i still need to come, it only cost $500.00 for the first time. I said sure i will just right out a check, no problem....

Anyways how has everything been going for you?

Im not looking forward to the cold weather coming. If im this bad now, what's gonna happen when the cold comes???

HELLO FROM TEXAS, IM DESPARATE FOR HELP. I SAW THIS BLOG ON THE PAIN ISSUE FORM TAKING LYRICA. I STARTED ON IT FOR MY BACK INJURY. I WAS ONLY ON IT FOR 2 WEEKS. I NOTICED MY HAIR FALLING OUT BAD AND MY HEART WAS HURTING AND THE WEIGHT GAIN. BUT THE MAIN ISSUE IS THE VERY BAD SWELLING IN MY ARMS AND HANDS AND FINGERS. IT HURTS SO BAD. ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT WHEN I LAY DOWN. IM UP ALL NIGHT RUBBING MY ARMS SO THEY DONT FALL OFF FROM BEING NUMB. I CANT FEEL MY FINGERTIPS. IT FEELS LIKE I HAVE THE WORST CASE OF THE FLU. NOW ITS WENT IN MY KNEES. MY SEVERIST PAIN AND SWELLING IS ON MY RIGHT SIDE. (STRANGE). I CALLED MY NEAURO AND THEY SAID THEY COULDNT HELP ME WITH THIS ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURE OF LYRICA SAID THEY COULDNT HELP EITHER. ITS BEEN ALMOST 3 WEEKS SINCE IVE BEEN OFF LYRICA AND MY PAIN IS REALLY BAD. WHEN WILL THIS WEAR OFF! IM FRAZLED...NO ONE WILL HELP ME. The Lyrica made me so much worse.

I never had knee pain before, and the weight, after a year I still can't loose the weight. A WHOLE LOT OF NEW PROBLEMS AFTER THE LYRICA.

It seems to me that the Lyrica intensafyed everything and made new pain/problems start. They say it takes a while, but I kept getting worse, so I stopped it. I had the dr. lower my dosage by the week, until I was I was down to the lowest doseage. Don't do this by yourself thoe, most meds will give you withdrawls. Im not sure about Lyrica, but you want to be as safe as possible. I heard this does help some ppl, just not me.

When my ankles swealed up for over 6 weeks, I coul'nt wear socks or shoes. At first my dr. was'nt even concerned. Not till I brought a pic to her and showed her how bad it gets. She tryed a bunch of meds that did'nt help. This happened 6 moths or so after the Lyrica, I don't know if it was cause of the Lyrica, or prednisone or any of the other meds they tryed.

I get opposite reactions to meds. So knowing that percocett had helped me in the past with other pain. Finally after forever I got the percocett and my swealling went down by the next day and has never came back. If only it would help with the weight now.

If dr.s would only listen to the patients.

Doctor's insist on using anti-depressants for pain. Ater trying a bunch of them and proving to them that they make me paranoid, make me feel crazy and all the other side effects. They think I can just keep trying differant meds and not have any problems, those dr.s are nuts.

My fingers, arms are still numb, when ever they feel like it.

The idiot neurologist I went to wanted to do a EMG, which I was gonna do, even thoe I knew it would not be carpel tunnel. The day of my app. they called and said my insurance would not cover it. He tryed to give me some anti-depressant also, I just never had it filled. This was the one who was close minded about FM and said if he got hit in the arm, that is Fibro.

After 3 months waiting for the rheumatolagist to call me back, she finally wants to do some injection in my hands. She did not tell me what it's called, but im getting it done next week. They tryed prednisone like 3 times before, and they just don't get it. If it don't work the first time, why would it work 2 other times. I could of had this done 6 months ago, but they want to try all the other b.s. even if it dont' work.

My dr.s nurse was leaving post it notes for this rheumatolagist to call me, and it still took her 3 months.

IF THEY CAN'T FIGURE SOMETHING OUT, THEY THROW YOU TO ANOTHER DR. OR DON'T CALL YOU BACK.

I had been using this cream/lotion CORTASIN. (I THINK THAT WAS THE NAME) i WILL WRITE YOU BACK IF IT'S NOT, AFTER I FIND OUT. It helps relieve a little of the pain, gets ur bllod flowing. If you have nerve damage, you wont be able to feel the effects of it as much. But other wise it will give you a bit of a burning feeling. It gets better after a week or so, wont burn as bad. Just make sure you wash your hands after, it has jualapino pepper in it. I was using it on my knuckels, when my knuckels get stuck and forgot, in the middle of the night I must of wiped my eye and holy moly did my eye burn like crazy. That hurt, bad....in the eye...

But this might help, as it did a bit for me. I will double check on the name. My friend is using it now. You should be able to get in any pharmacy. I seen advertised on t.v. for Arthritis and was willing to try anything for the numbness.

QUESTIONS IF YOU DONT MIND: I STATED MY REALLY BAD SWELLING IN MY ARMS AND HANDS AND FINGERS , ESPECIALLY MY RIGHT SIDE. IM SCARED ALL NIGHT BECAUSE MY ARMS FALL ASLEEP AND IM SCARED ITS GONNA CUT MY CIRCULATION OFF. MY DOCTOR SAID HE CANT HELP ME , FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR! I WAS GIVIN LYRICA AND A FENTYNAL PATCH TO TRY TO HELP WITH MY BACK PAIN. THE PAIN IN MY HANDS AND FINGERS IN AWFUL. AND AS YOU SAID I HAVE IT IN MY KNEES NOW. I CAN BARELY WALK, I HAVE TO FOLLOW THE FURNITURE TO HOLD ON TO. THE IS INTENCE. I CALLED THE LYRICA MANUFATURER AND THEY SAID THEY COULDNT HELP EITHER. THANKS MICHELLE IN TEXAS

Yes, I am the same.

I can't wear my engagement ring, even after I had it resized.

On the bottom of my hand, up by the start of my fingers, are so swollen that they look like water bubbels.

I do the same with walking, the morning are the worse. I have fallen a couple tomes, or knee's have just gave away. The lotion I told you about will help a bit with that also. With the swealing I have been taking vitamin's like crazy and trying water pills. But ask your dr. first about the water pills, not sure if they would intereact with your meds.

Im thrown to the curb by the dr.s and don't know what to do either, I have been trying anything ppl tell me about.

Im affraid I will wake up and won't be able to walk. As im sure you are also.

it seems to me, doctors don't care at all.

I take forever to stand in the morning, as my feet go numb also.

My 3 year old is potty training and that is the worst part.

Im so slow, that I think imslowing her down with potty trainning.

I have to start with dinner, but let's keep in touch as much as possible.

P.S. Do you get flagged at the E.R. as a drug seeker, as I do?

GOSH, YOU SOUND THE SAME AS ME. IN THE MORNING IT TAKES THREE TRIES FOR ME TO GET UP ON MY FEET. THE PAIN IS AWFUL IN MY KNEES , ECT. I HAVE TO TAKE MY PAIN MEDICINE NOW AT 6:00 AM TO PREPARE TO GET UP FOR THE SCHOOL BUS AND THEN FOR WORK. I NOW WALK LIKE I AM A HUNDRED YEARS OLD. IS THERE ANY HOPE THAT THE EFFECTS WILL WEAR OFF FROM TAKING THE LYRICA? I ONLY TOOK IT FOR 3 WEEKS AND IM TOTALED PHYSICALLY! I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO, NO CARES. I have to keep my meds up, I have a 3 year old that is very mischievious.

I wish I could keep my meds close by just for the morning. I feel like each step is a challange. My legs start to work better by late afternoon.

I know my family don't understand when I say I can not do hings in the morning.

Or they call to do something and I say my legs are not working yet.

Alot of ppl won't understand until it happens to them......

I started having jaw pain the last month or so, off and on.

Im not sure if it's the fibro or a new symptom or TMJ.

I don't wan't to bring this up to my doctor, she will say "WHAT AM I GONNA DO WITH YOU".

She has been really good with me. She has pain issues also, so she gets it.

Do you have pain between your shoulders and neck?

Mine has gotten worse since the snow started. A friend gave me a gift certificate for a massage and finally today I get to use it. I have had it since early Nov.

There is always something elese that is more important to do, for the kids and family.

So I just made the app. and told everyone that's how it's gonna be.

I have not found out anything about knee/leg pain.

Doctor says just keep them moving. If it's walking around the house, as all I can do.

I want a treadmill, but cant afford one.

I think it's fromthe Lyrica because that's when it started, and I have never had knee pain before.

Today my legs are week, im not confident in going to my app. but I really have to get my muscle tension released.

I get a bumb above my wrist on top of arm. The bump get's hard if it's gonna rain or snow. The worse the weather, the bigger the bump.

Even thoe when it's windy, I get the worst.

Try to keep heating pad on ur knee's/legs and take alot of hot bath's.

Buy some saltz for muscle relief, they have that at walmart. I like the purple container called BATH SHOPPE by village naturals the best. It's a bath soak. I mix it with epsiom saltz ot other saltz that I find.

These do help a bit, not as much as were wishing, but it's something

hello from texas, you saound exaclty like me. it took all i had to get out of bed this morning. I CRIED SOFTLY TO MYSELF AND THEN GOT UP. IVE NEVER BEEN SICK. THE LYRICA DID THIS TO ME. I HACKED ON THE NET AND FOUND OVER 20-30 PEOPLE WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS CAUSED BY LYRICA. ALL OF THEM TALK ABOUT THE HAND AND KNEE ISSUES. AND YOU KNOW WHAY I HAVE THAT SAME LUMP IN MY LEFT ARM NOW TOO THAT YOU ARE DESCRIBING. CAME OUT OF NOWHERE. DID YOU LOSE YOUR HAIR TOO. HALF MINE FELL OUT AND EVERYONE SAID THAT TO. I TALKED TO A LWAYER ABOUT THE LYRICA ISSUE TODAY. HE REPS PEOPLE ON THIS MATTER. MY LEGS WORK BETTER IN THE AFTERNOON TOO! MICHELLE IN TEXAS

I have noticed my hair has been thinning on top.

When I shower/bath I have hand fulls of hair in the drain, then after I brush-even more.

I have very thick hair, the only place I noticed is on top, so far.

Yes, I would be interrested in that info for the lawyers, does it matter that im in a differant state?

Sorry, my spelling has gotten pretty bad, threw-out the years.

I try to be strong, but this last week has been so discouraging.

My friend gave me a $20 gift certificate for a chiro. Usually I would not of went, but a free massage can't hurt. They have made me worse in the past, from adjustments.

He wanted my x-rays that I had done about a month ago, so he could futher assist me. So I called 2 day and was transfered 4 times and nobody could help me, as I was getting transfered again, I hung up.... I was so frustrated and annoyed that I can't even get my x-ray's. Then I called and canceled my app. w/ him for 2marrow.

I could go to a differant clinic and get more x-ray's done, but for 1. I should'nt have to. 2. We only have 1 vehical at the time & it would be to late by the time my fience got home. 3. Im in to much pain to even get to the grocery store.

That whole problem today, made my pain go up more.

I give you a big high five for what you are doing for yourself and others and for sticking up for yourself. I wish you the best.... and pray your energy stays up so you can get them and tell them what thier drug has done to you and others.

The Lyrica made me irritable also. The doctor just kept saying give it a chance- to stay on it for at least 3 months. The 30 + pounds I gained from it will probley never come off. That has made me so discouraged, knowing it takes everything I have just to get walking in. On top of that I had a c-section 3 years ago and was trying to get back to normal.

I weighed like 140 then and now im almost up to 200.

I am like 5'4 and had gained 50 pounds after my son almost 14 years ago again c-section. It took me like a year, but I lost most of it.

I know after having 2 kids that im not gonna be the same size 3, but I was doing okay.

Now im lucky to fit into 1 pair of jeans, other wise I wear sweats or like workout pants.

I don't remember but believe you said that you gained weight also?

Im so glad that we get to chat on this awsome site, where ppl can relate with each other and not get discriminated against, and treated like dirt.

It really helps me get threw a day and gives me hope.

We all just want our lives back to the way they were before this monster came into our lives.

My fience is pretty understanding and try's to listen, but it's just not the same as it is with someone that feels what im feeling.

Again I wish you the best, and can't wait to get that info from you.

Was wondering if you had sent me that info to my email?

I did not see it, but maybe overlooked it.

I was sapose to have my appointment 2day for the rheumatologist and she canceled on me. They wanted me to come in a few hours earlier, but it was not possible. I have been waiting forever for this appointment. I was sapose to get some kind of injections in my fingers, to help with the pain, numbness and gettting stuck down.

So I called my doctor and I know she wont even call me back.

Im so sick of these people, I could strangel them all.

I don't think my pain can get any higher, and im just so pissed at those idiots.

Im not gonna make it threw Christmas, im not going. Noway I want people to see me like this.

I hope all is going better for you.

I will be watching for that info.

HELLO FROM TEXAS.. I HAVE BEEN SO SICK. THE LYRICA HAS JUST MADE ME SO SICK. MY DAUGHTER RUSHED ME TO THE HOSPITAL THE OTHER DAY. I THOUGHT I WAS HAVING A HEART ATTACK. IM OKAY. THE LYRICA HAS ATTACKED MY MUSCLE AND JOINTS SO BAD. IT HIT MY ARMS AND CHEST MUSCLES REAL BAD. IT WAS FEELING LIKE MY HEART WAS BEING STABBED. IVE GOT THE REALLY BAD RASH AGAIN FROM THE LYRICA. I AM SO TIRED ALL THE TIME. IVE NOTICED I DONT LIKE THE SMELL OF SOME RICH FOODS ANYMORE. I ONLY WANT SWEETS. MY DOCTOR TOLD ME TO COME OFF THE MEDICINE COLD TURKEY. I HAD SUCH BAD WITHDRAWLS. I WAS SO SICK. LIKE A ZOMBIE. MY HAIR FALLING OUT HAS CALMED DOWN. BUT THE SICKNESS AND ACHES ARE REALLY BAD . THE SWELLING IN MY HANDS HAS GONE DOWN, BUT I HAVE SUCH BAD SHARP PAINS IN MY HANDS, THUMBS AND FINGERS AND KNEES. IVE BEEN TACKING NAPROXEN. IT HAS HELPED THE SWELLING. I WAS ONLY ON THE MEDICINE FOR 2 1/2 WEEKS. THAT NOT VERY LONG FOR SUCH A RAVISHED EFFECT. IVE BEEN OFF IT FOR 3 WEEKS NOW. IM NOT A WHINER. THIS IS A TERRIBLE DRUG.
