I broke my back when I was 15, in a freak accident. A guy who liked me ran grabbed me and lifted me over his head then proceeded to go around and around faster and faster. As I was kicking and screaming for him to put me down his foot got stuck in a bike tire that happen to be sitting near us. He lost his balance and fell over the bike, dropping me over 5'feet on to the driveway. When I hit the ground every inch of my body had major pain kind of like electricity went through me. I couldn't move for at least 5 minutes. I don't remember for sure what the doctors said, I messed up something, it wasn't that good. They gave me pain pills and said, since I was young my body should adjust to my injury. I've lived in pain every since. It has gotten worse over the years, much worse. In 2000 I started looking for a doctor to do something to help give me some type of relief. Up to then I was only taking over the counter medicine. I went to so many doctors and almost all of them made me feel like I was a junky looking for drugs. I went through a lot of bad doctors before finding one that I really liked and truly trusted, "Dr. Steck." He performed back surgery on me in 2004. It really helped a lot, because before I was in the bed almost 24/7 on a heating pad. I still use my heating pad almost 24/7, but now I am not in the bed. I am also able to walk 4 to 6 times a week for at least 40 minutes, I try and go for an hour most days. I am still on a lot of medication and it keeps my pain down where I where I can exercise and do a little bit of house work. Sweeping KILLS me though and standing still. I can walk, I just can't stop and stand there for to long. I am thinking very hard about getting a Spinal Cord Stimulator put in. My pain doctor thinks it will help me and I met with the doctor who does it, "Dr. Erich Richter" and he thinks it will help me maybe up to 70%! Would that be a dream come true. Now I just want to learn as much about it as I can and get up my nerve for another surgery. My back surgery was one of the most painful things I have ever done and I've had 2 children, broken bones and almost lost my arm and none of that even comes close to that pain. So now I am kind of chicken, make that a lot of chicken. ha ha We'll see, I'd love to not have so much pain that's for sure. It truly would be a dream come true. One that I've stopped even believing in.
