New Fiction Book, Remedies, Talks About Chronic Pain

By Karen Lee Richards, Health Guide Sunday, February 28, 2010

From time to time I'm contacted by authors asking me to read and review their non-fiction books on fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, or other chronic pain conditions.  But much to my surprise, a few weeks ago I heard from a fiction author whose had written a novel that dealt with chronic pain issues.  Needless to say I was intrigued.

The weekend after receiving Remedies, I settled down to read.  I ended up reading through the night and didn't put it down until I had finished it.  Author Kate Ledger has written a compelling story about a doctor and his wife that really brings the issue of treating pain adequately to the forefront.

If you want to spark a discussion about living with and getting treatment for chronic pain with people who don't have the problem themselves, Remedies would be a great way to do it.  It's usually a lot easier to get most people to read a novel than it is to persuade them to read a non-fiction book about chronic pain – especially if they feel you're trying to lecture them.  Also, if you belong to a book club or a support group, this would be an excellent book to discuss.

I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.
