A friend of mine emailed me the article about Lyrica this morning. What wonderful news!

Hey, Karen.

Yep, a few months back, my neuro gave me a sample bottle of this.

Problem; I've had heart problems since the age of 9; had rheumatic fever/ rheumatic heart disease then and, like many thin women, have a murmur. Within about a week of my starting the Lyica (which did NOT make me sing, by the way), I had developed some pretty scary heart and chest pains.

So, for those hoping this drug will be beneficial, PLEASE heed the warnings, ok?

You're absolutely right, Anne. Every drug has possible dangers and side-effects, which we should always take seriously. Thank you for reminding us of that.

Right, Karen.

There are a LOT of people in the throes of chronic pain who will try just about anything/ everything to feel better. And, though I did end up with some cardiac problems, I could certainly say that, in the week-to-ten days that I did take Lyrica, I had better and more sleep at night that in about a dozen years!

Definitely, I can see some positives; just thought some people, esp. who have had probs with other drugs, might want to consider that all do have side-effects; some worse than others.

I´ve taken this for 2 doses, and already feel better!! I am dizzy as a loon, however. As the day wears on, I feel better, but after the dose I am drunk as a skunk!! Will these symptoms go away if I continue to take the drug? I do not live in the USA and my doctor here only knows what he finds on the net (same as me!). I slept better than in my 62 years!! Of course I feel very lazy and it was an effort to get out of bed and continue on with the day. Does anyone know if this will change as my body adjusts to this me? Thanks for any reply

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better with the Lyrica. I'm not surprised to hear you're sleepy and dizzy. Those are the first two side-effects listed for Lyrica. It's possible those symptoms will improve as your body adjusts to the medication but, of course, I can't say that for sure. If they haven't improved after a couple of weeks, check back with your doctor.

It would also be a good idea for you to check out Lyrica on www.epocrates.com. That site gives a lot of good information on prescription drugs, including other medications you should avoid when taking a particular drug, possible side-effects, how the drug works, etc. Under Lyrica, there is a long list of other drugs (prescription and over-the-counter) that you should be cautious about taking when taking Lyrica. It's possible if you're taking any of those as well as the Lyrica, that may cause or increase your symptoms. If you have any doubts or concerns, please check with your doctor.

Thank you for your reply. I have cut down to 75mg 2x day because I was feelingn just a little to good! (This my be why some people become addicted to this drug!). I´m trying this for 2 weeks to see how I am and then increase if I need to. I have the dizziness bus less severe. Hope my body adjusts to this. 75mg doesn´t seem to help with pain at this point, but I am sleeping better. I think I´m in a crisis right now, making it worse.

I´m not taking anything else with this, as I noted the LONG list.

Again, thanks,
Maureen

Maybe 150 mg is too much for you or anyone and maybe lyrica should be given at smaller doses and increased gradually like some depression medications.

Hi Everyone! I have been taking Lyrica for about a month now and it is wonderful. My pain is better and I can sleep solidly through the night. At first it made me sleepy and sometimes dizzy but after a few weeks those side effects went away. Lyrica has been a wonderful relief. And I love that there aren't very many side effects compared to most drugs out there. I certainly wouldn't recomend it for anyone who is severely depressed though considering the warnings about possible suicide. I don't have a history of depression and I haven't had any noticeable mood swings from it. I know that medication effects everyone differently but I did want to share my positive experience. It's definitely worth a try.
