What Next?
Funding to-date has allowed the Columbia team to manufacture pharmaceutical (GMP)-grade compound, ready for studies which will evaluate the safety of the drug. Now they are looking for investors and experienced partners to help them take N60 through clinical trials.
My Thoughts...
The possibilities for this new compound are exciting. It's encouraging to know that there are researchers out there who are concerned about our pain and working to find better, more effective treatments for us.
I hope someone (like a pharmaceutical company) will see the potential benefits for chronic pain patients and team up with the Columbia researchers. Of course, even if they begin today, it will still take several years for N60 to go through the necessary clinical trials and receive FDA approval. (See How the FDA New Drug Approval Process Works) But the sooner they're able to get started, the sooner that day will come.
