I have done yoga on and off for 30+ years-when I am able to attend it helps me physically and mentally.  Unfortunately, it is not covered by healthcare and financial resources limit my access to classes.  I am unable to achieve the same results at home on my own.  I need the guided process from a yoga instructor to calm down my brain and allow the yoga to work.

While the article is interesting, it is also overtly sexist. Men have fibromyalgia, too. I am one of those men. Why weren't any men included in the study group? I suppose I can infer that yoga might help male fibro sufferers, but why do I have to draw that inference? I know that female fibro sufferers are apt to endure great struggles to have their condition diagnosed. I would think and hope that at least one of the women involved in this survey might have noticed the absence of men in it, and that she might have spoken up.

I have fibromyalgia, am 46 years old and have tried yoga.  I gave up after about a month because I also had breast cancer and the surgeries (including reconstruction) left me unable to perform the move called downward dog.  I couldn't find anything that replaced that move on the DVDs that I tried that didn't ruin the flow of the exercises.

I loved this article. I was drawn to yoga a few years back, my baby sister, (born with CP), had become obsessed with the control she could gain from her otherwise uncooperative limbs...with focus and breath. I was struggling with chronic pain from FMS and was humbled and inspired by her accomplishments...long story short. We now make weekly visits to varying special needs groups to pass on our yoga knowledge.
