I have recently read several studies that found acupuncture to be an effective treatment for relieving a number of different types of pain.  This has certainly been true in my own experience.  I’ve personally been seeing an acupuncturist for a few years now for fibromyalgia.  In addition to lower levels of pain, I’ve experienced significant improvement in my ability to sleep well and with irritable bowel syndrome.  My acupuncturist treats several FM patients who say they couldn’t make it without him.  Besides treating the pain of FM, acupuncture has worked for members of my family who have gotten pain relief for everything from tennis elbow to a ruptured cervical disk.

Needless to say, I’m sold on the effectiveness of acupuncture because of the huge difference it has made in my life.  Of course, no single treatment works for everyone.  But in light of the positive studies, acupuncture is an option you may want to consider and talk over with your healthcare professional.

To learn more about how acupuncture works, how it treats pain, and what to expect at an acupuncture appointment, read “Treating Pain With Acupuncture.”

Wishing you pain-free days,
