I was ready to try Cymbalta. After reading all the side effects I was confident I was a good subject. I tried Lyrica for over a month with no reduction of pain. So lets go for the next one. My doc. told me it might reduce back pain too..
One cap and I was out of the race. I woke up in the middle of the night in a panic state feeling like I was laying down on a BBQ. I was feeling that my skin was burning, and toutching was painful, awful sensation. No fever no rash but BP quite high and fast pulse. I was very surprise of the reaction. My dr. was on holiday so I lean on my fav. pharmacist for advise. She recommend that I discontinue the med that day.and wait for my dr.
I was puzzled would understand it from Lyrica because of the class of medication but a that one ,no.
I can say that I have things working almost fine for me with my meds regiment why looking for something else. Am I still looking for the magic pill ? I just hoped that I could get off morphine and live a "normal" life. When I went on it my dr. then told me it would be for a short time because something was around the corner.......
Dear Karen,
I need your permission if we may use your profile of where it hurts in our web site that we are at the moment setting up. I have been sending out by slow mail a survey, and wiith in 3 weeks I have over 60 back. The information on the survery is going to blow the minds of the specialist and doctors that are comming to the conference. But what is amazing is that at least 80% have considered suiside. Because doctors just don"t beleive or understand what is going on. As for myself in the good old Aussie slang" I am BUGGERED" and that is putting it politily. We have 3 fund raisers going this month, starting with a BBQ lunchon at our place. A film night that informs people more about Fm and Autoimmune diseases an how better to care for them. Then the Art Fund Raiser, where many a well known artists have just given us their work, to be auctioned. So I am pretty tired and starting to pay for it. Sorry for putting this in this site, I am not a good computor person and I couldn't find the place where I normally go. Please forgive me. Sandy Eastman.
I have tried Cymbalta and thought it helped with the pain and depression. For me, it worked very quickly (within 3 days). However, within a few weeks, I realized that I had no, and I mean no, sex drive. I realize and have experienced this with other anti-depressants, but this was the worst it had ever been. Believe me I have sometimes thought I might go back on it because I really liked it, but don't think the side effect will help my marriage too well. Good luck to others with this!
I have done what doctors have told me and tryed the meds hey put me on. When i was told about the cymbalta i was not ready to try it because i had bad experiance w/ antidepressants. I had blacked out and hit my head, passed out in a bathroom and had a young child sleeping.
So when i tryed the cymbalta-i did not get side effects sheet from pharmacy. But i was on it for 2 day's and slept 3 hours in that 2 days, i felt paranoid, fast pulse, very hot, alng w/ many others. I was not a happy camper, after the dr. i was seeing then said don't worry you will be fine after i told about the bad experiance i had before. When i stopped the med and refused to drive 2 hours to a pain mang.-the dr. took me off my other pain med (cold turkey) and said she did not want to treat me anymore.
It took me a week to find a dr. that would treat me, after seeing 2 dr's that refused me, or maybe my insurance. Who know's....
Why do dr's refuse to give you a med that helps you????
But then say that they don't want you to get addicticted, but put you on something way more addictive.
Does anyone elese have this problem???
Is there a reason so many of 'you people' are pushing this stuff (Cymbalta and the like)? Do you not read the posts on this site? These are VERY bad Meds! I suggest you do some reading around on this site and see first hand how MANY people feel about Cymbalta and the like.
I appreciate your concerns. We are not promoting any particular drugs or treatments – just reporting on research results. For every letter I get from someone who had a bad reaction to a medication, I get another from someone who says how much the same medication has helped them. No single medication or treatment is right for everyone. All we try to do is make the research information available. It's up to patients and their doctors to determine what is best for them.
I was taking Cymbalta 60mg for depression. It helped somewhat. I then developed peripheral neuropathy in my toes and feet. I was told to increase my Cymbalta to 120mg once daily. It helped for 1 week and then the horrible pain came back. I saw a new Neurologist and he told me that I must sleep, even if I have to take Ambien. I started taking Ambien at bedtime and slept very good going into deep REM sleep. The doctor then told me to take 120mg of Cymbalta IMMEDIATELY after waking. This has been a miracle relief for me. If I take the Cymbalta 1 hour or so after waking it did not help. The doctor explained that when you get a good night sleep, you make Seratonin and Norepinephrine. If you take Cymbalta immediately after waking it stores the chemicals for a much longer period, thus reducing pain. If you have this problem, and are taking Cymbalta, talk to your doctor and ask him about this regimen. Hopefully it will work as good for you as it did for me.

Thank you for the info. I just began taking an SSRI two months ago and so far, I'm very pleased with how it's helped my mood and I think it's also helping with some of the pain. I still have the periodic flares when I over do and have to rest, but over all, I don't think I'm having as severe or as many flares as before and I also think that they are quicker to calm down and I've been able to do a few more activities this summer.
Thank you
Betty
