Last week the FDA gave nine pharmaceutical manufacturers 60 days to stop making unapproved painkillers, which included high concentrate morphine sulfate oral solutions, and immediate release tablets and oral solutions containing morphine sulfate, hydromorphone and oxycodone.  My first thought wh...

I hope i'm not reading that right. Are they going to stop making oxycodone 5mg? I currently take those for break thru pain. I can't switch to percocet because I have hemochromitosis and am not supposed to take tylenol.

There are still two companies who will be making the oxycodone 5 mg. – Mallinckrodt and Vintage.  It's the two companies who were making Roxicodone (a different brand of oxycodone) that have been ordered to stop production.  Of course, since there's already a shortage of oxycodone, it may be more difficult to find it for awhile.

The FDA, that underfunded, incompetentterr agency that couldn't even keep the pet food safe,  cares nothing about the actual suffering of chronic pain patients or protecting us.  They are as opioid phobic as the DEA, the DOJ and those other agencies and individuals in government who continue to support the ill conceived and long outdated Controlled Substances Act passed in 1970.

Pain patients are generally regarded as nothing more than drug seeking opiate addicts by both their government and their doctors.  To learn more about this terrible injustice and the pain patients who are organizing to fight against it, I suggest visiting the website of Pain Relief Network.

I'M WELL AWARE OF THE DRUG PROBLEM IN THE COUNTRY. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT CAN'T GET OUT OF BED DUE TO THE PAIN? OR SOME ONE LIKE ME WHO CAN'T EVEN GET UP AND WALK TO THE BATHROOM WITHOUT  PAIN MEDS??? IF THEY TAKE MY MEDS AWAY, I MIGHT AS WELL BE DEAD. MY QUAITY OF LIFE WILL NOT BE WORTH LIVING FOR.  THE PAIN AND SUFFERING IS ALMOST TO MUCH AS IT IS NOW.

While I am fully aware of the problems of drug abuse, those of us who truly require relief from pain are becoming more and more unable to so.  It is truly sad that people do abuse medications that  help others and because of those people it is getting harder for people with chronic pain to find the relief we are intitled to as suffering human beings.  Doctors are afraid to prescripe proper medications and make us feel guilty for needing them.  I am no stranger to chronic pain at 64 and certainly not interested in using medication for anything other than what it is meant for.  While I have heard some people get high on these medications this is not the case with myself and thousands of others who suffer chronic pain.  The pain medications encluded in the list the FDA is taking off the market are none I use, however, when will they decide all pain medications should be banned?   I feel the FDA  is going far beyond what it is they are suppose to be doing.

hi, i so agree with you, altho i WAS taking one of those medications, i took MYSELF off, because i thought they had prescribed too high a dose....what IS next, i myself have bbeen in chronic pain for only 3 years ( seems forever), the pain clinic was very upset that i di this by myself and lowwered the fentanyl pattches i was on from 150 mmg. to 50 mg., altho this did not help me very much with the pain,( istayed in bed for months crying) i was actually AFRAID to ask for breakthru pain medication, because of the treatment i recieved when i did go iin for my appt. i did everything they asked from then on , and when my hhusband called to to try and get me some breakthru meds , they said no, that the fentanyl should be enuff!! i then called them in tears and still they turned me down, needless to say, i am not goiing to that pain clinic anymore. this is just ridicculous how they treat people in the medical field (not alll) but i have hhad suc h a bad experience with2 pain clinics, i go to my family phyisician now, but all he can do is give me pain meds , he can not find out the reason why i am in so much pain, and obviosly after going to 1 pain clinic and having 10 injections, going to physical therapy, chiropractor, ...they also could not find the reason for my chronic pain other than 2 disc bulging. i am sorry you had to be in apin for so many years...this is just ridiculous, when you hear about all these poor people that are in pain and the drs, , clinics treat you as a drug seeker, there must be something we can do!!! thanx for listening, cindi

Hi! I understand your concern about pain meds. I also wouldn't be able to walk without my morphine and vicodin. I use to be in a wheelchair, now I walk with a cane. If they discontinue the pain meds I won't be able to get out of bed. I take the lowest dosage of all my meds, which does help the pain, but I'm still in alot of pain. So lets all stick together and hope they solve this problem. donna in illinois

I want to know why we as a group are not forming a petition etc to protest our treatment. As a recovering cancer patient I am insulted by the treatment by my government. Allowing shortages and suffering, dismissing my pain, and making me feel like I am a drug addict. I am tired of it and ashamed of my country and this witch hunt. We need to rise up and do it now. Apathy and inaction will result in many people suffering or at the very leadt having to search all over town when feeling terrible Frownalready just to fill a Rx HOW RIDICULOUS and is a bit abusive to those very weak n ill like myself!Cry

hi ann, thanx as always for keeping us informed, there are way too many people in our country suffering, and for no reason!!! i , myself am so sick of looking for new pain clinics, because of the way i was treated, as i see so many other poor people ! there has to be something that can be done with this!! are we to live our liveess in pain and have our whole world turned upside down, because of no commpassion from drs., nurses etc?? i am so glad i found this site because , i thought i was the only one treated as a drugseeker,, and now i see all these people that are treated the same way..it is just WRONG!!!! i am so glad that my family physician can SEE the pain i am in and i see a therapist because my husband and i are moving furthher and further apart, and i can't hardly blame him, i am not the wwooman he married, i do rarely ANYTHING anymore and i am truly afraid of our rrelationship just falling apartCry. it reeally is not fair to annyone!!! is there anything we can do? i'm sorry, i know i am asking a question that might not be able to be answered. thank you for all you do, cindi

I hope that this won't affect the pump. I have had tried everything else and this is the only thing that works for me.

I am well aware of doctors' abusing the system. In fact, where I live, two doctors have gone to jail for writing fake scripts. This ruins it for people that truly need meds to survive. There should be a way that we get what we need with no hassle.

WHEN IS THIS GOING TO BE TAKEN CARE OF BECAUSE RIGHT NOW I FELL LIKE I AM BEING TORTURED.I live a lone and I can not stand up to cook or take a shower without being in so much pain.If it was not for Insures I would starved.

I would like to know when this is going to be takin care of because of right now I do not have any kind of life.

I was wondering if you know  if they will be pulling 40mg oxycontin mfg Purdu?  And 10 mg Endocet?  If they do pull these will there be other's like them left on the market that I could easily transition too?  Very scary for me, I have 7 ruptured disk and, am on palitative care, just had spinal cord stimulator put in that failed. Very concerned, as I am a mother of two small children, and can't function with the pain without these medications.

Thank you for your answer,  Sheila

No, the FDA will not be pulling either OxyContin or Endocet.  Both are on the list of FDA-approved forms of oxycodone.  I understand your concern since it seems like so many opioid medications have been pulled lately, but you should be fine.
