In the past year or so, there's been a lot of discussion about whether or not vitamin D is useful in relieving chronic pain. I thought that if something as simple and inexpensive as vitamin D could help ease even a fraction of our pain, it was worth checking into. So I looked at multiple ...

Vitamin D for chronic pain

After deep research from reliable sources, I have been trying to take from 3000 to 4000iu of vitamin D daily in pill form. As my only income is disability and not enough of it, I cannot take it on a regular basis. I really cannot say if it has helped. Perhaps if I did not have fibromyalgia, degenerative disc disease, severely painful carpal tunnel (both wrists) and ganglion cysts in both wrists, swollen painful knees that needed replaced a few years back, (and has not yet happened due to divorce which was a nightmare), then a debilitating auto accident, then, asthma and chronic bronchitis, then, the latest news, rheumatoid arthritis, which has attacked both feet and is twisting my toes into painful, indescribably painful conditions, it might be perceptibly helping. My cup is so full of pain, often I scream and cry from 2:00am until 7:00am, when I either conk out due to exhaustion, or give up and try to get up. Prayer is my LIFELINE . I recommend anyone in chronic pain to try it. There are definite physiologial reasons for vitamin D's use as an aid to pain relief. I do not like to sound like a whining hypochondriac, I am merely stating the facts, and thankful that God continues to give me another day of life to read His word, praise him and glorify Him for the blessings I do have. I have no family WHO will even let me tell them what I am going through. all I get is " You are always hurting , and if I continue to plead for help they act as if they do not hear me. For those of you who have supportive family, give thanks To God for this. If not for God I would have absolutely no desire to live.

it does hurt when others do not understand about what pain we go through,we try to explain and others think we are just complaining about another injury/illness. i know God has a plan for me as he does for you also,i have yet to come to full relization of what the plan is, it is His will not mine to figure out. i will say i came very very very close to ending it all but was hit with something that changed my will. i understand about the SSD money, medicare and part D and tx's expensive. i was taking pretty hefty doses of vit D and really did not notice a difference, we are all built different though. have you tried going through that PPA prescription thing that they help pay for meds, not pain meds of course but there are a lot they help some folks with. montel williams speaks of it often,i don't watch him so not sure what website it is,maybe that can take some of medication stress off of you. God bless i know how you feel,my family is the same way.

Karen,
I have RSD/CRPS which means I have daily pain. I did quite a bit of research into vitamin D and decided that I would try it since was D level was on the low end of normal when I was tested in the springtime. I have been taking 5000 units daily for 4-5 weeks and I can feel a difference in my pain levels. I have been able to reduce one dose of pain meds a day.
