constipation relief

  • This truely is an expample of beauty and the beast. With the relief of opiod pain meds. comes the dreaded constipation. Even though I had been going to doctors for three years I was never told why opiod pain meds. caused constipation. Last week I had to go to a pharmasist I had actually never spoken to before. She told me that this side effect occured because opiods cause the gastrointestinal contactions to slow down. She let me know that Dulcolax, or it's generic bisacodyl, get those contractions to start moving again.

I have been taking it at night before I go to bed. Like clock work by the morning I am good to go. This is a new thing for me. Let's just say that it is like a small cloud being lifted. I had not realized how uncomfortable I truely was.

I hope this tid bit of info. helps others in our community. Good luck! Mermaidme

Thank you mermaidme for your information.  I know its a delicate subject that most people don't like to talk about, but it can also be a very painful one.  Like you said, you didn't realize how uncomfortable you were until you took the dulcolax recommended by your pharmacist.  Have a great day.  Angel in my corner (Diane).

I wanted an osmotic so am using miralax along with senna. I read where you shouldn't use senna long term. I want to get so I don't need meds at all to go. I wish I could find something more natural...but these meds...well you know.
