About Me

Hi, I'm Tommy, a 48 year old married man with chronic back pain. My wife (Linda)and I have been going through a lot of frustrating times trying to get some relief from my pain. In 1990 I was injured in a construction accident in which I broke my back in 7 places. I was told at that time that I would probably would not walk again, but I proved them wrong and came back to 100% functioning, with problematic pain of course. For the first year I used many different drugs for pain, but didn't have much relief, so I stopped taking drugs for pain. About a year ago (18 years later)I was having a lot of pain and decided to try pain meds again. I immediately found that the tides have changed about pain meds and doctors. I was immediately treated as a junkie seeking only a 'high' and not taken seriously about my back pain. I did finally start taking oxycodone in small dosages. About 6 weeks ago, I lifted something and found myself in severe pain in another part of my back. My C6-C7 disc ruptured and started pinching nerves (I found out recently this was the cause of my pain) for my neck, mid back, right shoulder, arm, and hand. I was crazy in pain that never went away. I went back to doctors to try and find out what was wrong. I was again met with disbelief and was assumed to be 'drug seeking' and pretty much ignored. After 2 ER visits in severe pain, 5 doctor visits, 2 MRI's and a few specialists, it was found that I indeed had something wrong with my mid back. But to this day, (even to type this has me almost to tears in pain and I have taken 6 pain pills within 3 hours with NO effect)I am still not believed and treated with disrespect. I made an appointment in APRIL for a pain clinic to manage my medications hoping to get relief, and I am still waiting for my first appointment..(Sept. 7th) I am so disappointed and frustrated about how long it takes to get help. I don't understand why medications offer NO relief, and why I cannot get a drug that will stop this crazy pain. Well, that's pretty much my story, and I would welcome any and all input someone would have to help us...Tommy and Linda
