Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 11:27 AMI had a spinal fusion in December 2007 and develped a severer staff infection 2 weeks later and had another surgery to clean out infection. 2 weeks after that I developed highn fever and they operated again and left the wound open with a wound vac in me for 6 months with IV antbiotics. The infection stared in my hip where they took the bone graft.Since then I am in constant pain in lower back and hip down my left thigh. The bottom of both feet are numb and tingly and my rt calf is numb to just below my knee. My leg keeps going out from under me. The stenosis I had at L4 L5 has now traveled up my spine. I have 3 exposed nerve roots. I had an MRI last week to check for a compression of nerves. I take 2 60MG Oxycontins a day with 4 ocycodone (5mg) for break through pain and stll can't sleep at night. They now have added xanax at night and I have slept 2 nights in a row after aing about 2 hrs sleep a nogt for the last 2 years. My husband died this past January after having 10 back surferies. He was only 57 yrs old. Now they found 4 lesions on my brain and think I may have M.S on top of everything else. Does anyone else have the numbness in thier calfs and feet like I do?
If you do, what are your doctors saying it is? I am really desparate for answers.

Well a week has gone by and it's the same ole same ole so i'll tell my pain management Doctor when i see him in November. I'm thinking it gotta be the meds and Gabapentin just might be the one causeing this numbness.

First off, I'm truly sorry you and your wife have been through so much health-wise. Here's hoping and praying things will look up for you both.
It is my understanding that Sibley Memorial Hospital in DC specializes in pain management. You might check out their website to learn more specifics. (If convenient you might want to attend their chronic pain seminar on the evening of October 27. Website calendar has more details.) I also have another suggestion that I'll send to you via message.
Hang in there! You are certainly not ALONE.
