I go to NA meetings daily, but decided to go to a Pills Anonymous meeting last night, thinking maybe I could connect a little bit more.

Ohhhhh no. That's not recovery, that's martyrdom. There was quite a bit of actual "one-god" religion involved, and one girl said that if god's plan for her life was to spend the rest of it in pain, then she'd have to accept that.

Sorry, if you believe in a loving god, that can't be right. What god would expect that from anyone?

NA has a booklet called "In Times of Illness". I recommend it to any addict with chronic pain who thinks they just have to "deal with it" for the rest of their lives. NA doesn't expect you to live in pain. They don't believe recovery should cause suffering. It gives some ideas on how to still take pain meds, but do it correctly, like having another person keep your meds and actually distribute them to you if you know absolutely you won't be able to take them correctly. And let's face it, addicts aren't going to take it correctly. If one every 4-6 hours works, then 4 every hour should REALLY work. That's the addict mentality.

If you think you're an addict, and think your life is getting out of control, find a meeting. Go just to check it out. Nobody's going to force you to stay, or to keep coming, or to do ANYTHING. All they want is for you to ask for help if you want it. The people in my group are the most accepting, understanding, loving bunch of people I could ever hope to find.

Thanks to those who posted about the abuse-resistant morphine, saying that addicts deserve pain relief too.
