Bone mets clinical trial of ExAblate using MR guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) for pain palliation of bone metastases and bone lesions. Prostrate, breast, lung and liver cancer patients who are suffering from bone mets pain are eligible.
An FDA approved investigational clinical trial is being conducted to test whether a non-invasive technology safely and effectively reduces pain from bone metastases (bone tumors or neoplasms) - cancerous lung, breast, liver or prostate tumors that have spread to the bones. The non-invasive procedure combines focused ultrasound waves, designed to generate sufficient heat to destroy the pain causing nerves in the bone surface surrounding the tumor, and magnetic resonance imaging, to guide the treatment.
