I am a 60 year old woman who has endured three back surgeries. After each surgery the pain is more intense. It has been 3 years since my last surgery and hope never to have another one. My pain can get to a level 10 with medications. If it were not for my primary doctor who is very sympathetic and feels my pain, I don't know what I would do. Even with his strong pain medicine I still do not get even 80% relief. My feet have started hurting and burning. My doctor said I had periphereal never damage. I went to a pain clinic where they did not even want to give me medicines just wanted to implant a pump. I have heard these do not work. I saw a patient with a pump and he looked like a vampire and totally out of it. Who knows maybe it might work on some but I don't want to chance more pain and trauma to my body. I hurt all the time and am home bound. I sleep on a head pad and take sleeping pill in order to sleep with this pain. At times, I don't know how to cope am on Cymbalta which also messes with my bladder. I get UTI's and swollen feet. Don't know where the swelling in the feet is coming from. My neurologist just looks at me and shakes his head and tells meto let my primary prescribe my pain meds. They have diagnosed me with "Failed back surgery." I was practically unable to walk when I did my first surgery and did relatively well until the other disks started collapsing. The pain is so intense I have just resolved that this is going to be until I die. I hope no one ever has to experience this horrible pain.
