i was shocked to read about the tens unit, I went for my usual trigger shot injections, and the anisthisiologist said he couldnt get thru (the huge needle) because of spasms, and told me i needed to get on a tens unit, i didnt have one, lost no where to turn, couldnt afford one, but i bought it (with a script) but i am not a hundred percent sure on the settings. I remember when i went to p.t. and chiro, they just put it on for about a half, and what felt good, they had it cranked up waiting for me to say "okay thats good" or for my legs to start bouncing all around, but never happened, i have thirty seconds,an hour an continue. I suffer from chronic pain, F.M. disc issues, sciatic etc etc,, i just dont know the propper settings,, can someone give me some kind of idea, money is so tight to have me have to go and have a p.t. do it,,,,any help out there???// thank you, and god bless. linda....so do you have a tens unit?....i have had chronic (pain) cervical degeneration for 2 decades....last spring a p.t. suggested it and it has been great for me ever since....i use it a lot when i am home....my first p.t. gave me that half hour stuff; but my second p.t. said if it helps wear it as often as possible....as far as settings , it changes everytime i think based on how "bad" my cervical  nerves are that day....it also depends on the placement of the electrode pads....if i get good placement i might get maximum relief at 3.5.....other days i can tolerate a setting of 6...it really is determined by how you feel...the whole concept is that the neural stimulation is interpreted first by your brain before it reacts to "pain"...i am a firm believer in the tens unit and couldn't believe that article.....i must say that i also take pain meds everyday but i can specifically feel relief from my empi unit...i hope the same works for you...good luck....i do think only other chronic pain sufferers can understand the hell we go through every single day (24/7) and must still have a live (i do),  smile and look good to "protect" our friends and love ones from our true painful existence

Beanie,

first of all, I am very sorry about your chronic pain, I know too well how much it s--ks, thank you for your info on the tens, what you said about getting the message to the brain first had to make me think, lol. that took a while to get upstairs too.... maybe i have had it on too high once too many times huh?.. I will continue to use it, i just couldnt believe that article. I thank you for taking the time and writing me. It is a very very difficult thing we go through every day and like you said 24-7, and when ever i hear about someone that has a hang nail i want to smack em, lol. Would loveee to see a few people in OUR SHOES for a few minutes, people just have no clue do they???, must be nice to actually get dressed without not having to lean against something to put a sock on, or have to sit down to put your underwear on etc etc... sorry, didnt mean to start whining myself, Hopefully some time away from this cold new england air will do some good, just booked a flight to fla. leaving in nine days, well beanie, again i wanted to say thank you,and i hope you have a low pain day.   take care,
