Anyone here from Michigan recieving disability for fibro?
I was denied because Fibro was not on list of disabilities,however judge did state he believed I was disabled. wish I would have kept paperwork,but threw it away in discouragement years ago.
I have heard recently of people being approved due to Fibro,and thought about trying again,but since I have been unable to work I no longer have enough work credits to apply for disability!
I'm sorry to have to say this, but that judge misled you. A medical condition does not have to be on the "list" in order to be considered as a reason for disability. The only thing necssary is proving you are unable to work for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Unfortunately, if it's been more than five years since you've worked at a job and contributed to Social Security, it's too late to file. You might want to talk with a disability attorney anyway just to see if there are any other options for you. They will usually give you a free initial consultation to determine if you have a case, so you have nothing to lose. Good luck to you.
i have been out of work for 9 years. i was just awarded disability but not for fibro, i too was told its not on the list of disabilities. my doctor and i went thru and listed all the different symtoms that i have from fibro and that did work for me. dont give up on social security, thats what they like people to do. no matter how many times you are denied keep trying. good luck.
You will get it, it took me 3 years. DO NOT USE THE SAME ONSET DATE FOR THE DISABILITY. I know it is tough, and 3 years was hell to go through financially. I was diagnosed in 2000, it has been 9 years, and I have been on disabilty for 5 years. Even if you can not collect on SSD, you could qualify for SSI, for low income families. My husband makes too much money for SSI. I get $700? a month, it is not much, but it is better than nothing, plus after so long on you are available for Medicare coverage, which helps with medical bills, that has been a good send for me. I felt that I was lying about the onset date if I changed it, to refile. They have already said that you are not eligible at that time. Pick a new date, after all the intial paperwork, something new happened. New trip to hospital, or diagnosis. Try again with that as onset.

If I had only known earlier what I know now!
I could have appealed again to the higher court system a few hundred miles away(with no auto,and dead broke at the time). My attorney would not return my calls at the time,either so I felt helpless and gave up.
Thats just what gets me...We not only have to learn to accept the fact that we can no longer live a normal life(play ball with our kids etc..),we have to have the added stress of how we are going to manage to support these kids should something (god forbid) happen to their father.
I have not worked in the last five years because I was unable! If I can find a loophole or someway I will...just because I feel like I was treated unfairly by the system,and have seen other people collecting disability that are out doing things I sure can't do.

I 'm disable & recieve ssi,the fibro had got me to where i could'nt do anything anymore so i got a lawyer & recieved my first ssi & ssdisability check in 6 months ,yes u can get it.
Congratulations on forging ahead with your case.
In a prior note someone had written that they recieved
disability mostly due to depession from fibro, that's how my
neurologist won my case for me.
You don't have to step foot in a lawyers office to do this either. I found a lawyer that deals with fibromyalgia/cfs cases only, his office was /is located an hr away from my home. An initial call was made to find out the facts, fees, etc. Everything was done by mail, fax, and phone calls.
Luckily I'd kept daily records and had those to send in with my application and number of days I wasn't able to work. They only wanted information about the past two weeks that I'd not worked.
The general gyst of this story is don't give up, find a lawyer that works with fibro cases only.
Call, ask information, tell the truth, don't hold any little thing back regarding how you feel, hurt, how often, etc.

Eggs, I don't have a direct response to your question, but I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia about 5 years ago, and I was actually qualified for disability because of "depression", which was only present because of the chronic pain! Before that I'd never been depressed a day in my life. I was also screwed over on disability because as my disease progressed I began missing more and more work, and disability decides how much you'll be paid based upon the last 3 months you worked, which I hadn't known about or I'd have stopped working much sooner and much more suddenly! Also, I had taken a lower-paying less stressful job BECAUSE of the fatigue and pain.
By the way, the only reason I knew to fast-track my diagnosis as fibromyalgia is because my identical twin developed the disease ten years before I did, before it was accepted as a "real disease".
Anyway, if you are feeling depressed in addition to your fibro (which often includes depression anyway as I understand it), you might qualify for disability based on that.
