Hi Heidi, My name is kim. I have never really been addicated to my medications from chronic back pain. I recently just got off my pain meds, b/c after my surgery i felt like i was relying on them alittle too much but i was still doing ok without them too. Has your boyfriend gotten any better? i noticed you wrote this back in december so i hope your still around this CPC site. If he is still just as bad, i know it can be hard. I used to get so cranky and alot of that had to do with the fact that i was so angry about being in pain. I was mad at the world and that kind of stuff. Yes, granted the pain meds did help take the edge off, but i knew i couldnt be on those for the rest of my life. How close are you and your boyfriend? how long have you been together? Do you feel like if you told him how you felt he would listen and try to understand? i only ask that q, because ALOT of your typical guys out there would say things like " i dont know what your talking about, i dont have a problem" that kind of stuff. Thats called...denial! I grew up with that with parents being alcoholics and anytime id bring it up and that it was hurting me, thats what id hear back. Its the same as pain meds...its an addication and until you(well he) can realize the difference between being addicated and needing it every so often for pain refief. things wont be changing anytime soon. Do you feel like he is taking too much of it? if so, is doctor needs to be watching him alittle better if you ask me. The doc should be watching how many pills he or she gives to him. Your right too, its NOT good for your body, i cant tell you the exact long term effects of being on it, but it can damage intestines(sp?!) and your liver and things like that. I just know all that codine it has in it is not good. I was on pain meds after my surgery for up to about 2 yrs...i wasnt taking it all the time, but at least 2x a day b/c for awhile your pain can be worse before its better after surgery.Either way, after i took myself off ALL the meds, it took awhile to adjust, and i think i had some bad withdrawls from it even though i wasnt even taking it all the time!! either way, i had a bad time for about 3 weeks or a month, now i feel like my body is finally getting healthy again. My back is still horrible and stuff, but im learning to cope with my pain management doctor and even though i hurt more, i feel better overall. if that makesany sense. Sorry if i already asked you this, but has he had  surgery before? is it low back pain?? does he have herniated discs or nerve pain?? just curious what kind it is. Well, i think i wrote enough and i dont want to bore you anymore than i have too! lol, but feel free to write me back anytime or check out my profile of what ive been through. At least i can say i understand. Big Smile Oh, and also they have ALOT of great info on the web about drug use and long tern side effects. Just type it into google even and it will give you TONS of info.

Take care, and im here if you need to talk. Heart
