It's December 8, 2007 and I'm beginning my second month of antibiotic treatments. I think that I developed the disease in late May or early June but, because a bulls-eye rash never showed up, I can only guess at when it really hit me.
Additionally, because I've &...

Lyme disease in Connecticut (revisited)
Mark
Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 10:20 PMNow it's January 16th and I completed my 60 days of antibiotics early last week. I'M BACK! Best I can tell the lyme is gone. The normal aches and pains are back with me (like old friends, believe it or not). I have to say, in my case at least, there is life after lyme. For those of you troubled with the disease there is hope - hang in there!

Friday, May 09, 2008 at 06:33 PMApparently the the antibiotics didn't kill off the little buggers. In late February of this year (2008) I began to feel some suspicious aches and pains returning. I asked the doctor to prescribe another blood test. It came back negative. After toughing it out for another month (and finding that getting up from a sitting position was nearly impossible and, due to the discomfort, sleeping was a real problem) I went back to the doctor. This time they ran a Western Blot which came back positive. I've been on antibiotics for about 3 weeks and feel marginally better - a little less pain and my sleeping has improved. The doctor tells me that he doesn't believe in chronic lyme but, given the fact that I got my second 'case' in the middle of the winter, I'm beginning to wonder. Last week I went to forum on the disease that was held at Western Connecticut State U. It was put on by a group of well-meaning people and a doctor who treats the disease in its chronic state. When he started talking about amalgam fillings, blood sugar problems, Alzeimer's Disease all being related I began to look around the room to see if anyone was wearing a tin foil hat. There were vendors selling their wares in an adjoining room and the only thing that seemed to be missing were bottles of Dr. J. Hoestetter's Stomach Bitters. The forum gave the impression of a turn-of-the -century medicine show. So, what I've found is number 1: a doctor who doesn't believe in chronic lyme and thinks that lyme in general is a simple thing to deal with and, number 2: a side show with a carnival atmosphere espousing the thought that lyme is responsible for every problem under the sun. I think that the truth must be somewhere in the middle. In the meantime I'll plod on and see where I end up. Sooner or later I guess that it'll all be figured out. Keep smiling!

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 08:57 PMI've been off of the antibiotics for about a month and I feel a lot better. Although I still have some bone and joint pain. My hope is that it is simply a residual effect of the lyme that will diminish over time. For the past 3 weeks I've been back riding my bicycles - both the mountain bike as well as the road bike - and I'm up to a 12 mile maximum distance. Last week I rebuilt a portion of our back deck. I surprised myself in that I was once again able to swing a heavy framing hammer. That with my wrists still being a bit sore. The pain is odd in that it almost feels like a toothache when it strikes. It's still centered in my wrists, hips and left shoulder primarily but, as I indicated earlier, every now and then I get these toothache-like pains in various bones. All-in-all though, I'm feeling a lot better. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the bug is going away.

This is the second bad case of Lime Disease I have heard of this year. The first was my neighbor's kid (16) it was his 2 or 3rd time getting it. That poor kid had to have a cath. put in his arm going into his chest and a nurse would come to the house 3 times a week to administer his meds. I have truely learned so much this year about this nasty thing.
I do hope you are 'feeling your age' soon...8)
Your to young to feel 90! But I do understand. I have days too.
Take care
