I have been referred to a surgeon in MD for a microsurgical procedure to remove my dicss and place fat grafts in the joint with post surgical banding for 4 months to distract the joint and promote healing.  Something has to be done as the condyle continue to deteriorate readily from a suspected avascular necrosis-pehaps what is left of the disc impeding the blood supply.Has anyone had this procedure and even pehaps with this surgeon?  What was the long term outcome? THXX

Hi,

Would be interested to learn more. The term condyle  is a bit confusing. the only place in the spine that has a condyle is the occiput, has 2. however, there is not any disc between the occipital condyles and the 1st cervical vertebra that attaches to it via 2 joints. The 1st and 2nd also do not have a disc. thus, connecting the disc with "condyle" is confusing. Does the physician mean the vertebral end-plate? That is the bone above and below and connected to the disc that nourishes the disc.

based on your clarification, I can be more specific.

thank you.
