I just got diagnosed with TMJ and the doctor told me about some of the symptoms. I went on this site to read more about it and came to find out that I have alot of the symptoms listed.  The worst, I think are the horrible headaches I wake up with in the morning, not a good start to the day!  Before I even thought about having TMJ I contributed all of my symptoms to stress, job related and others. My husband doesn't think the problems I'm having can be related to TMJ and must be from somwthing else. My question is: Are the symptoms posted on this page really from TMJ ?

If you're talking about the symptoms listed in the article "Symptoms of TMJ Disorder," yes, they are all symptoms that can stem from TMJ.  Our bodies are quite complex and different parts are interconnected in ways most of us have no idea about.  Particularly when it comes to the head, there's a lot going on in a relatively small space.  Pain or a disorder in one area can cause problems in a number of other areas.

Having said that, we have to be careful not to automatically attribute every new symptom to the original problem – be it TMJ, fibromyalgia, or any other mulit-symptom disorder.  Talk to your doctor about any new symptom or any symptom that is particularly bothering you to be sure it's TMJ-related and not something else.

You mentioned having bad headaches in the morning.  You might want to check out our MyMigraineConnection site.  They have lots of excellent information on all kinds of headaches and you might fine something helpful there.

I have had TMJ, including two surgeries, since the 80's. I have had many, many different types of treatments for pain. Last August I got an NTI splint to wear at night. It is, by far, the best thing I have tried in 20 years. Save yourself a lot of money, pain and time and check out this device. If you have pain upon awakening, it sounds like you grate or clench your teeth. This fixes that problem. Good luck to you.

Check out www.headacheprevention and www.drjimboyd for info on the NTI. I have had TMJ for over 20 years, including two surgeries. THIS splint works.( I have had Many others) Save yourself a lot of time and money by getting an NTI. I don't work for or have any affiliation with this product. Ha! It just does what it is supposed to do.....relieve pain. Good luck to you!
